Hi Joey, those clouds you were admiring at first were cumulus clouds, that can rain on you, the clouds you were admiring later on are cumulonimbus clouds, which are the kind of clouds that signal that there may be a thunderstorm on the way. They go straight up until their tops are sheard off by the jetstream, or they hit the stratosphere, and the tops of them flatten out, they're also called thunderheads.
