Ashmeadiella is a genus of desert solitary bees that live in cavities in rotted wood, cactus skeletons and even the shells of our native Rabdotus snails down here in South Texas. I spent thirty minutes lurking in the peyote sanctuary yesterday in 95° heat observing pollinators come and go. This bee was the most common one.
In other news, a massive solar project is destroying tons of Astrophytum and Lophophora habitat, and sadly we can't get permission to go in and save them. The idea of building solar on pristine Thornscrub habitat when nearby commercial cesspools have literal miles of available parking lot where scaffolds could be constructed to host solar panels and provide shade to the cars below is insanity.
