My preschool teacher took us out for short trips to learn about local trees... But that was a small town in Sweden, but many problems can still be similar. Humans act like humans everywhere on the globe for better and for worse...

School is an enormous component of life up until around 20-30 years old for some, longer for others. I think it makes a lot of sense for people to place the blame with something that they spent so much time doing and were legally forced to do. If they were beaten down mentally for 10 years and told how stupid they were and how much of a failure they were (either through archaic and meaningless grading systems or verbally from adults) well yeah of course they’re not gonna want to learn and be curious. That’s not even beginning to dive into the cultural and financial reasons behind either not going to school, not liking it, not “being curious” etc. Or personal reasons for thinking higher ed is b/s like myself. Really tho if colleges and professors want people to stop shitting on their profession, they gotta stop making it about profit, notoriety and stop gatekeeping

I went back to school as an adult to get a degree in Natural Areas Management. I had to waste a shitload of time on taking core classes that had absolutely nothing to do with Natural Areas Management. I didn't really want to take speech, for fuck's sake.

That’s not my point. I’m not saying school was good I’m saying people should stop using it as an excuse for their lack of curiosity. Most people just aren’t that curious and it comes out in many ways. I go to friends houses - no books, few even bother to watch documentaries on their devices, try to talk about anything but small talk and nothing. They go to other countries and stay in resorts and visit the tourist traps and hardly see the real country, their houses and gardens are devoid of aesthetic touches. I read accounts of really deprived people historical and present day and what they did to get an education or teach themselves and realise that drive is just missing in many people.

Thank you for posting this Mr. Sean, i was embarrassingly unaware.

depends on the school, state, etc. Most don't teach relatively enough, grade school through high school, which prepares people for life. They should really have multiple directions one can go in, from plants to farming, sciences and anatomy, art and creativity, to business and workplace. But this is never done, unless you want to be doing precalculus or something that helps only a small percent of kids stay interested and learning.

the problem is that school curriculums arent designed based around matching students with interests, then framing the core skillsets within those interests. As a child you don't know enough about the world yet to know what you'll find interesting, but if the educational system were designed around that concept, there would be many more students that would stay engaged throughout their school career. people are much more willing to endure the tedium of rote learning if it relates to something they have the desire to learn

Great photos. I disagree with some of your points in your commentary though. Science can have a lot of boring stuff but after awhile you realise that you need some rote learning to understand more interesting things and relationships. All disciplines and art forms have that component to them. And I think some people blame school for the lack of enthusiasm they have in further learning but I wonder whether it’s just an excuse for something that would never be there. It’s just too easy for people to say about something they may not like about themselves. I agree though that plants can open up a world of wonder on many levels be in aesthetic, scientific and just wonder.

It looks fantastic so far! Let us know if you're interested in user feedback (ex., I didn't see a link to buy your art book which would be right at home on the Art page and/or Homepage). I guess also FYI for anyone who's unaware of the new book, pre-orders are shipping SOON, May 31st (unless I've been scammed by an imposter, awgawd): https://pacificstreetpublishing.com/shop/crime-pays-but-art-doesnt
