I took was traveling last year in NSW and went out to Iluka world heritage rain forest. The whole drive in from A1 was burnt. One of the most startling things I remember from that trip was seeing a melted Koala crossing sign. It looks like the trees recover quickly but the loss of wildlife is tragic.

The burnt forests look a lot like south east Australia after the fires we had here at the start of this year ( depressing). But we’ve had plenty of rain since and the forest is coming back. But the more depressing thing is the fires were so intense that not many animals would have survived and those that did had nothing to eat for months. So while the forests are coming back they’re fairly empty of animal life. Hopefully they’ll migrant back in from the unburnt areas but that’s going to take years and years given the extent of the fires.

Nah it's OK. Last time I was there a couple years ago I commented to myself how bad it needed a fire. What's grim is the drought

That cypress situation is pretty grim.

It’s so counterintuitive to me that anything survives such hot fires, especially that the little seeds aren’t just burnt up and done. So fascinating and miraculous. Thanks for sharing and explaining so well.
