Desmond crept cautiously down into the dark cavern. This was stupid. He knew it was stupid. He knew the legend like everyone else. As ridiculous as it sounded, a dragon was supposed to sleep in this cave. And he knew it was a terrible idea, but Desmond was desperate. He was sick and tired of having nothing, of watching the people around him slowly starve to death, knowing it would be his time soon enough. Dragon hoards were said to be filled with mounds gold. Surely a coin or two wouldn’t be missed?
Dark as it was, some light glowed from the sparse fungus coating the rock. The atmosphere changed as he stepped from the narrow corridor into a far larger cavern. Straining his eyes, Des could barely perceive dim points of light reflecting back at him from all over the immediate area. It was true! This was a dragon-hoard filled with gold! Quiet as he was, Desmond gasped aloud in his excitement, the sound echoing around the cavern. It was followed by a far louder noise as the gold further in shifted, something rising out of the pile. Desmond's eyes burned when a fiery orange glow flooded the area and a voice boomed out.
"Welcome, stranger. It has been some time since a anyone dared visit my home. Have you come to show proper respect, as did the humans of old?"
"I..I'm.." Desmond stumbled over his words, mind frozen with fear.
"Or, like so many others before you, have you come to steal from me, plunder what is rightfully mine?"
Maybe the fear had broken him or maybe Des just wasn’t that bright, because he answered simply, "I just don’t want to be poor. I don't want to starve."
“My, my...an honest thief. You are not long for this world, I think, skinny and...simple as you are." The dragon paused, pondering. "Perhaps we may help one another. You were brave, I suppose, as well as foolish enough to seek out my wealth, and I am not opposed to rewarding that bravery."
Desmond, still standing in the same spot, finally got a proper view of the smaller than expected dragon as it appeared from behind one of the golden piles. Dangling from a set of dangerous looking claws was a golden chain, like a necklace but larger. Before he could do anything, the dragon flung the chain at Desmond and, following it's master's will or displaying a mind of its own, wrapped itself around his waist as the dragon spoke "And you will be my companion, my mate. A generous reward indeed."
The gold clung to Desmond radiating waves of power into his body. He felt warm, the fiery orange light reflected off shiny metal all around suffusing him, sinking in, changing him. Pinpricks of pain lit up all over his body as what felt like tiny blades sprouted bloodlessly from his skin. The pain faded quickly, but it was still disconcerting to watch the waves of green cover his previously pinkish skin. In a short amount of time, Desmond was encased in smooth scales, somehow both supple and hard as stone, and the changes didn't stop there. He felt a wrenching in his spine as it extended, bursting forth just above his broadening backside. While that part of him continued to expand, his waist squeezed in, breath-chokingly tight, the scales around his middle forming a natural corset. Suddenly, a bonfire erupted between his legs and Des dropped to his knees. Searing pain melted away to hot pulses of pleasure as the area transformed, smooth and surprisingly sensitive scales covering the new opening that formed in his...her body. The green scaled-woman groaned as her body grew in other ways, legs lengthening and taking on a different shape, muscles expanding all over, the room around her shrinking. No, she was growing, her entire body increasing in size and mass. And something else was growing too, she realized. There was an ever increasing presence on her chest that forced her eyes down to expanding twin additions. Strangely, they felt...right. Her new, alien body wasn't awkward but natural. No longer was she nearly emaciated, now she was powerful and...voluptuous, she supposed. The change was welcome. Des felt strength filling every limb, every movement. She was tall, nearly a foot taller than her previous height. She felt like a giant, or at least she did until a shadow loomed over her blocking out all that beautiful, sparkly, golden light. Des shuddered as she took in the source of that shadow, her apparent new mate, who had changed as well. He was magnificent, a gorgeous deep dark green, more man shaped now but with distinctly dragon features.
I thought this form would be more palatable for you, for now. I do not wish you to fear me. You want to no longer be poor, but wealth comes in many forms. I've lived surrounded by several lifetimes worth, yet I am poor for having no one to share it with, to admire it's perfect gleam alongside me. No longer. Join me and we will each have the wealth we desire.
With coy hesitation, the former Human, former male, answered with actions instead of speech. She sat back against the stone, her body flushing in reaction to the dragon’s words almost as much as his form. This wasn’t what she expected, this was something new.
