No not a setting, just a quirk of the pi4 (I'm guessing this is a pi4). Please try switching the video port you're using and rebooting, should fix it right up. We are investigating a way to try to communicate this beter.

I just found dynaframe and have it up and running. Im having issues with it not playing videos i added a short 5 sec mp4 and it shows a blank screen and then goes to next picture. Is there a setting I'm missing?

Please make sure to check the welcome channel, read through the rules and then react with a checkmark, that should get you up and going

Joe Farro

Thanks, I joined but it tells me I don't have permission to post... (not that I really need to right now)...

Gary Miyakawa

the link kept expiring. I just created a new one at: https://discord.gg/rvf5FPzBmU that shouldn't expire (hopefully!)

Joe Farro

I'm trying to join the Discord group but keep getting a message that the invite is invalid or expired. Is there a way to find the group inside of Discord ? (I'm very new to Discord).

Gary Miyakawa

If you can join the discord it'll be easier to help you there, we have several people that can assist and we likely need more info on things like the video itself and such. The log page will tell you the latest code you're on. if you told it to update and see a reboot then you're usually in good shape. Also there youc an send video or pictures of what youre seeing and that helps us immensely understand what you're trying to do and what the video looks like. A vertical video when on a vertical screen should render correctly. If the video for some reason is sideways (as other software requires) then it needs to be rotated. If the video is widescreen and 1080p, and you zoom it should zoom into the center to fill the screen, but that's going to not be ideal. Also I'd need to know if the video is 30fps 1080p or if it's larger. Finally the best test is to hit escape on a keyboard to exit Dynaframe, launch VLC and try to play it there. If it can't play there, then Dynaframe won't have any better luck with it, but at that point we'd debug the video/format/resolution to get it working smoohtly

Hello, unfortunately, I need advice. Perhaps someone has had a similar issue and possibly a solution. I have a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B. I installed the Dynaframe Pro image available on Patreon (September image - tried to update to the November Update, but not sure if this worked out - is there a way to check the version in Dynaframe?). Now, I want to play videos on a 32" vertical screen, which essentially works. Due to the format, these videos need to be played "portrait," and in the original (without zoom), the videos run smoothly but with wide black bars at the top and bottom. With "Zoom" activated, the videos stutter unbearably. Is this "normal"? Or is there a workaround? Is it a hardware issue, and would the RPi3B+ be better? Or do I need to precisely trim the videos?

Hmm. Here's the current invite link I have, please let me know if this works: https://discord.gg/6EGmJGTZ

Raspberry 5 is not supported yet. We're working on it. The OS for the pi5 is entirely new and breaks a large number of things. We have a bunch of progress getting them working but it's going to take some time. We have to move the OS we're on forward to Bookworm (the pi5 OS) regardless so we're working on it

Joe Farro

is raspberry pi 5 supported? The discord link is showing as invalid/expired.

Derek Shane

Thank you so much for a detailed explanation... I am very glad to be apart of this journey.

Thankyou! Glad it's up and running, and the plugin docs may interest you and unlock quite a bit of fun stuff if you want to bend it to your will. For the NUC or other hardware, there's a number of things we're working through currently to try to figure out what that would look like. One thing about our software is that if we created 'just an app' it'd be very easily portable across OS's and API surfaces. However because we interact with the system on so many levels (we use VLC for video playback, interact with the audio stack to control volume, do quite a bit around the compositor) and we focused on the pi platform, alot of our codebase is kind of like development you'd do on a console...it's very strictly tied to the hardware to allow for quick development. As we learn more about compositors, audio stacks, Window managers (x11 vs Wayland), and even platform specifics (Raspbian OS does some funky magic for things like screen blanking and such). then we learn things that we should architect not against Raspbian, but instead as a generic platform that can handle these differences in an elegant way (for instance detected the window manager used and then doing the correct things to handle rotation). That's work we didn't invest in because we have focused on so many other aspects and features. The pi5 is forcing us to look at it in a new way, because it changed just about everything in the only OS that supports it. We're going to take a look in January to see what we can do there, but I've already prototyped some work and identifed some workitems that we'll have to do to support that pi5. The goal is to do it in such a way that we can look at what it'd take to port to another platform

Joe Farro

Got it up and running on PI 4.... Thanks so much for all that you have done so far! I used to dabble in programming, so I have the utmost respect for your work. I would be very interested in running this from a NUC eventually .....

Tiny Tom

Omg yes...I apologize that was supposed to be in the original post. I updated it, but here's the link: https://discord.gg/eTQjsxqS

Joe Farro

Do I need a link to join Discord? Edit: Nvm, found it....

Tiny Tom

Welcome! To get the most you'll want to join the Discord, that's a great place to browse for ideas, get support, or just show off what you are building. You can always direct message me on here also, though the discord is much faster for support stuff. We're excited to have you!

Joe Farro

This is my 1st Patreon membership. I am excited to get started!
