Release notes:
This release is mostly small bug fixes and added settings to help complete the August features, but maintains our commitment to keep improving stability and features while we work on more exciting stuff that we can release as an alpha (plugins are the next big one).
The main changes you'll notice in this are added settings to allow for the video disablement features to be turned on. Video disable features were added in August because we found that the raspberry pi could have stability issues when playing videos that were of certain codecs or frame rates. The challenge is there's TONs of codecs, and some of the ones that a pi3 may have issues with a pi4 may not, and vice versa (they actually change the codecs each GPU of the arm chips supports on each version). Video, as mentioned, is complicated, with the Linux OS version (Buster), working with the GPU and VLC to make what we call a 'tech stack' that has to work perfectly to play a video file.
Sometimes, that goes wonky. So we disabled, by default, anything that didn't fit to a VERY precise configuration. The problem is...there's a lot of video files that we may be filtering out that may play just fine...and our stance at Dynaframe is to always give the users the choice.
This release is about that choice...you can turn on overrides now for things like FPS, or codecs so that you can let Dynaframe attempt to play those files. And if they work and it's stable, that's great!
If not please turn them back off and let us know. The codec and framerates should be in the logs now which will help us.
So whats next, and when will my bugs be fixed?
Right now, I'm heads down putting the final touches on Plugins. I have some crashing bugs I'm working to fix, and then documentation needs to be after that. Once that alpha goes out, we're going to turn our attention to the bug list and start figuring out what we can fix and when. Sometimes we cherry pick easy ones to get a bunch of things fixed fast, sometimes we prioritize by impact..if something is really wrecking an experience we'll try to get that fixed up. Feature adds come after those two as they usually take more planning, work and thought.
I'll work to get plugin videos up this week. I was going to do them last week but while making them we realized the plugin 'install' experience was terrible. The new experience will be to simply drag a folder to the 'assets' share, or use the store as we get them into there.
Thanks, and onto the next releases!
Comments
Sonseyn, was this resolved? Please direct message me so I can work with you if I haven't. Trying to track comments in Patreon is...not easy the way they have it setup.

2023-11-24 08:56:37 +0000 UTCI'm a new user and the September release is bugged for me. The infobar works fine but instead of a different image every transition, only a white screen (and the infobar) is displayed. In the UI's playlist editor the images show up fine. I've messaged you the log file.
