Release Iminent
Added 2022-05-14 10:06:05 +0000 UTCwe're doing final testing of the next release. I expect a release out in the next two days if not sooner. I just did a final test pass on it, and next up we have to package it, shrink it, upload it, and then get it out to you!
I saw questions recently about pi3B+...we got that in, and have made it as performant as possible. For those with pi3's I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. We also got in some of the performance tweaks that some of you found when using larger images such as those taken on phones.
I want to tell a quick story about the last issue we fixed before releasing, as it may shed some light on what the effort is of a small team doing work like this, esp. being US based. I was hitting an issue that my other 2 team members weren't seeing where the wifi access point was crashing constantly. I couldn't connect to the wifi page to connect my frame. They had no issues.
Turns out if anyone has a wifi access point near the frame that has a non ASCII letter in it (imagine anything outside of the English A-Z such as a ė), then this would cause the wifi to crash on the frame. I imagine this could be very common outside of primarily English speaking countries, and I think the only reason I caught it is I live in a very mixed community with neighbors from all over.
I didn't want to release until we had that figured out, as without that functionality, a user can't pair the frame. I'm glad to have it now figured out and fixed!
