He believes that Kite is saveable because he is a child in denial. Also, the reason Killua was trying to stop Gon from killing Pitou is because the destructive force and collateral damage would easily kill Komugi (a non-combatant civilian), with his Jajanken. Killua was trying to stop Gon from killing a civilian, a decision he’d potentially regret for the rest of his life. It matters because they are hunters now, and hunters live by a code of ethics. One of those codes is not killing civilians. Killua was trying to protect Gon’s innocence and his own idealized past version of Gon. Pitou doesn’t remember who Kite is.
