I'm actually blown away by this!! That is just so damn creative. Again it's something that can be easily glossed over but once you know about it you just can't believe just how much it makes sense!!

In this we see the masterful way in which Tabata created Noelle's character and the name of her spells. First, is what is the first spell that Noelle learned and why did she learn it in the first place? She was about to run away due to a risk and worrying that she'll die herself. Then the little girl asked her to save them and to protect her. The Manga name for that spell is Sea Dragon's Nest, not Lair like the anime. We see both visually and also the name is a protection for a child/baby. Since Noelle uses water magic, it is literally the womb of protection with in the mother. Then her next spell in growing in power is once again a protection spell, from the nest to the Sea Dragon's Cradle, once again done to protect her family of the Black Bulls. So the naming of the spells is a literal sign of the growth of Noelle, from the babe in the nest, to the young child in the cradle, to the fiery teenage with a Sea Dragon Roar. Yet, once again we also remember that Noelle's couldn't "control" her magic because subconsciously she didn't want to hurt anyone and protect people from being hurt in the first place, after her traumatic childhood filled with hurt and grief. This shows us how strongly connected and alike she is with her mother.
