CGI Space Pirates Fuel Store (Bonus!)
Added 2023-09-29 13:41:35 +0000 UTCTo offer you a little something extra, I thought I'd share this set recreation I did of The Space Pirates atomic fuel store and adjacent room as seen in episode six. This is how it appeared in Ealing on February 14th 1969 but I suspect it's not finishing being dressed. My hunch is that those alcoves had the radiation suits in. I've worked out some of the camera positions but I'm really puzzled about how the Doctor was filmed without being constantly obscured.

You might be right. I thought it might be similar to the bit in The Dominators where Troughton is requiring the travel pod and our perspective is effectively that of the inner wall of the panel that The Doctor is looking into.

2024-08-07 18:36:48 +0000 UTCI’ve just read the article about this in the DWM special, which notes that a removable “trap” was used for some of the shots of the doctor defusing the bomb. I’m guessing this must have been the box in the centre of the set that would otherwise obscure our view of him.

There's a lot of design inconsistences with that story (or maybe I just look too closely). The computer bay; half the shots they are on the raised level with the TARDIS, half they are on floor level. Then it also seems they spent longer taking the photos than they did shooting on that bit of set! And just where did Sorba's men appear from on that set, and how did they avoid the photos?
