is Hard to Swallow the trainwreckord?

I mentioned in the poll for this a TrainWreckords episode on Vanilla Ice trying to save his career would be good the same way Marvel movies can be good: you turn off your brain and watch somebody get wrecked. There's no real insight to be had into figuring out why Vanilla Ice's career tanked because there's really isn't anything to explain. However there is still one thing to explain: How did he get big in the first place? "People are stupid and bad music get popular all the time" is a dumb answer. Why did his bad music get popular over all the other bad music that gets made? My theory is that bad music that gets popular has to get something right. Nickleback for all their faults can write music that sticks in your brain. Niel Young has more talent than Nickleback could ever hope to have, but so much of Niel's music just slides off my brain. Somebody needs to tell Niel that just holding notes for too long in songs that last as long as Avatar does not make them emotionally evocative. This is probably why Nickleback get so much hate: not only do they make bad music, they make bad earwormy music. But what did Vanilla Ice do right? Lina figured it out for me. He did the same thing Adam Levine did: be hot. Psychology fact of the day: straight men are very bad at telling which men are attractive. They actually under perform random chance. It's like being color blind in that straight men just lack the sense of male attractiveness (straight women also can't figure out what men find attractive). I should have known he was good looking after all I have that image of him with Madonna scarred into my brain. Make me wonder what other crappy male artists are getting by on their looks.
