Hello, just a quick update on what I've been up to this past month.

I've been working on a 3rd person character controller, which will be the focus of a fairly advanced series that follows on from the character creation series I mentioned in my last post. I've just finished handling camera collisions, and am now in the process of implementing an obscurance system. If the player is obscured by an object, the camera should rotate (or zoom as a  last resort) to keep the player in sight.

Once again I was only able to upload a single procgen episode this month (apologies to everyone following this series for how slowly it has been moving). Coming up will be episodes on random asset placement, collisions with the mesh, and the custom editor I showed earlier. I haven't worked any more on the terrain textures, so that episode is still distant.

Otherwise, I released four new instalments to the Introduction to Game Development series. I'm greatly enjoying working on this series, which is why you've been seeing so much of it lately, but I'll try keeping things slightly more balanced with other series in the future.

Finally, I've been planning a mini revival of the 2D platformer series, to cover air-jumping and ladders. Also considering a new 'create-a-game' series, using the platformer series as a starting point. Any interest for this?

Thanks to all of you for your support!

Cheers,

Sebastian

I was wondering if you could try to cover the question of feets vs ground, to avoid the feet to sink, in your upcoming third person character serie? :). I wonder what are the techniques nowadays for this aspect ! I would like to know especially where people place the bone of the foot. It would make sense to have it under instead of in the middle of the foot, so that the bone is directly at the ground level? I would even put 2 bones in the foot to have the bend while walking/running, and place the last part under? Dear, my english is awful :p.

This is going to be awesome :)

Absolutely interested in an extension of your platformer script - the controller is the best put-together platformer controller tutorial I've found so seeing how you'd develop it further is something I'd love to see!

greatly enjoying watching the Introduction to game development series, would be nice when its at a level closer to the other series.

I haven't done the 2D stuff you've already done, but I'd be pumped for more of the platformer series, particularly those that you mentioned. Maybe that could include different styles of camera rigs (<a href="https://docs.google.com/document/d/1iNSQIyNpVGHeak6isbP6AHdHD50gs8MNXF1GCf08efg/pub?embedded=true)," rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://docs.google.com/document/d/1iNSQIyNpVGHeak6isbP6AHdHD50gs8MNXF1GCf08efg/pub?embedded=true),</a> screenshake and general polish (or juice as it's commonly referred to these days). The create-a-game sounds rad too!

Hey Sebastian, been waiting to see the 2d platformer series get a few more features added to it.

A new 'Create a Game' would be nice. Your first create a game serie helped me get college degree :D
