I have indeed spent many years listening to men drone on in meetings. However Unions, in my experience, have a particular problem with a blend of misogyny and ideological talking points. Private Eye has begun to highlight problems in the GMB, for example.

Nina Davies

never mind, found it

Hissin Puker interviewed who? The hot hoopy? I can’t even make out what interviews are talking about…. Is hot hoopy famous or something because they mentioned it like everybody should about it

Charles Barnes

Heh. I am familiar with that exasperating phenomenon. But it is by no means peculiar to "the weird left"!

Sonje Finnestad

Trade Unions. I was a Union Rep for a few years and attended Union Meetings. They were dominated by men who liked to speak and not to listen.

Nina Davies

unions?

Sonje Finnestad

Yeah I wonder how much of this is driven by the need to create such a tremendous quantity of content (measured by the hour) coming

Guruspod 2

It’s true these things (fringe politics, both left and right, & the Gurometer dimension) are correlated but I think it’s possible to have outlier political convictions and not to believe virtually all institutions, arrangements and structures are fundamentally corrupt and evil.

Guruspod 2

Yeah on consideration I see that. Just not a category of millennial bro that I don’t easily recognise.

Guruspod 2

American liberals believe themselves to be 'leftists' (see above), because the political spectrum in the US is severely truncated.

Sonje Finnestad

His combative nature feels pretty bro to me.

Interesting Matt didn't see him as a bro. To me that interview was brotastic, just a younger gamer bro. I guess broicity is hard to define, but what stood out to me were the vapidity and excitement over shared interest in drugs and anime. There's also something about the way he talks (when not screaming), but I can't explain it well.

Trees

I'd say yes, as long as by leftist you mean someone who is anti-capitalist. It also depends on which country you live in. In America, the terminology is confusing because conservatives will use liberal/leftist interchangeably to describe people to their left, but actual leftists use the word liberal as an insult for people to their right.

Ben Godek

I think this depends on how you define leftist. I’m a leftist progressive, but I believe in fair and free elections, the social good of education, and consensus scientific views about climate change and the efficacy of COVID vaccines. As far as I know those are not anti-establishment positions. I tend to be a pacifist and think that we should consider many alternatives before getting involved in a war, yet I also recognize the right of people, like the Ukrainians, to defend themselves from an invading army and feel that aiding their defense is morally correct.

Linda Sears

No, socdems exist

aneladgam_varelse

Wouldn’t the anti-establishment metric get pinged pretty hard by virtually any leftist?

And on that point, my fav Vaush’s debate is the one with YankieTankie. Initially they debated all the insane talking points, Vaush used arguments from marxist and maoist theory (literally citing Mao) to support his position, but eventually Vaush gave up, put sunglasses on and deflected all the insanity back to YankieTankie by using the very same reasoning but applying it to USA. https://youtu.be/DKPuoPWnEZI?si=40cl3FZ4mLjuAnPP

aneladgam_varelse

About inventing new paradigms: Vaush coined terms archo-bidenism and anarcho-natoism, which eventually led to masterpiece “Lockheed leftistm” (I encourage to google). Partially ofc it’s a joke, but generally Vaush shills to the left very common sense concepts like “participating in democracy and voting for progressive candidate is actually good” (helped organizing deep-canvassing) or “countries participating in the NATO have human rights and we should defend human rights from authoritarians” (platformed retired NATO general and didn’t ask him about anime). Vaush is bullied for these things by online left, yet instead of admitting he’s a liberal, Vaush insists he’s real leftist concerned about leftist values in the world, so his doctrines are anarcho-bidenism and anarcho-natoism.

aneladgam_varelse

He seems like he's trying to do a Jerry Rubin impersonation, except with all the bad traits turned up to 10 and no good traits. Comes off as stupid, lazy, and full of himself.

Mike

I liked your discussion of the wierd left. Unions, Extinction Rebellion and the Revolutionary Communist Party have been places I have met people who just can't stop talking and forcing their views on you. When I was 18 I didn't know what they were talking about and assumed it was because I needed to learn more about the issues. Now I am 53 I don't know what they are talking about and assume it is because they can't stop talking long enough to absorb any meaningful information.

I don’t watch Twitch, but I’ve seen a few clips of Hasan on YouTube that I didn’t think were bad. My understanding of the interview was that it was completely improvised mid stream. That said it was pretty damning, and horrible. Hopefully ya’ll swing back around to him at some point though. I feel like it’s tough with these twitch streamers who do 6hrs a day. Looking forward to future gurus

Michael

This has been fun. I had a brief stretch a couple years ago where I familiarized myself with Hasan. It’s a crazy game these online people play. Like spinning plates. How do you get longevity in the plate spinning world? Gotta keep the outrage coming!
