Hi everyone,
For the next Decoding Academia, we are going to look at a pre-replication crisis paper that got quite a bit of attention at the time. Published in Science it looks at the relationship between analytical thinking and religious belief. It is probably most well-known for a priming study in which looking at the statue The Thinker was associated with a lower endorsement of religious belief...
Anyway, for those of you who like to play along find the paper attached to this post.
The citation for the paper is...
Gervais, W. M., & Norenzayan, A. (2012). Analytic thinking promotes religious disbelief. Science, 336(6080), 493-496.

It seems odd to me that Rodin’s The Thinker is associated with rationality since it was originally made to be part of a larger work inspired by Dante’s The Gates of Hell, which is about as religious as it gets. I believe The Thinker was supposed to be Dante.
