A 'Speed' Decoding of Recent DarkHorse Content

We are experimenting with some video recording stuff and so produced this 'short' analysis of recent content from Bret and Heather's anti-vaccine podcast - the DarkHorse.

We will release the video version later but here is a lightly edited audio version.

Content taken from: DarkHorse #193 The Reactionary Clap Trap (Bret Weinstein & Heather Heying DarkHorse Livestream)

Enjoy!

JustTheWorstEver

Brett and Heather are so tiresome. Alternate realities. Sigh.

There’s a way back for honest people who genuinely care about what’s true. But these two are narcissists who need attention to fuel their unearned sense of heroism. They’re long gone and can’t/won’t be saved.

Curtis Kofoed

A thread on twitter

Curtis Kofoed

They cartoonish way they describe the left is really telling. Yes the left is anti military indus complex, anti war, and generally skeptical of big business. But these geniuses act like it’s somehow not possible to understand how one could oppose both the Iraq war and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Or how one can be skeptical of big pharma yet not believe that FDA approved vaccines are secretly genocidal bio weapons. Opposition to imperialist wars is a classic left wing position, so too is a general level of trust in institutions. I genuinely can’t tell if they are cynically trying to influence people with a jr high level of historical and political understanding, or if they’re actually just this stupid.

Curtis Kofoed

I think you are right. I am merely pointing out democratic dissatisfaction is a good wedge tool for Brett and his ilk, and should not be underrated

John Corey

He does. Though, it’s a very sophomoric understanding of American political history. It’s like Bret’s only idea of the Democratic Party is that’s it’s a bunch of crunchy anti-war hippies when the Democratic Party is more Rooseveltian and has been at the national level since, well, Roosevelt. I don’t really listen to Darkhorse, but I doubt they’ve ever discussed the Chips Act or the Biden administration’s attempt to bargain drug prices which big pharma is actually upset about.

Hmm stick to the regular decoding fellas. 😅 It kind of felt like I was stuck inside some super long tweet rant of Chris's.

SonicScrewWriter

Impressive talents on this guy. Think he will revolutionise the 9/11 truthers.

Tobias nilsson

It seems obvious to me that some of the characters that you guys cover (and their listeners) are in some hazy strata of society that might be “functionally psychotic”. The clips that you play during this episode sound indistinguishable from what you’d expect to hear from mental health patients that are resistant to insight. And maybe it’s an effect of the social media environment that elicits a kind of “state psychopathy” vs trait. I mean this sounds so extreme that it must start to feel like punching down to critique them.

Evan

Not going to lie, these episodes with the Weinsteins and Scott Adam’s types are soooo hard to listen to because their voices are sooo grating and say such bat shit insane shite it’s just …. Reallllly Difficult to listen to lol they make me insane!!! Haha

Chris Snyder

An episode of less than an hour? I couldn't believe it. Thanks guys! More of these two would probably have become unbearable.

Roland Weber

My first experience of Brett was on a YouTube episode he did not long after George Floyd called ‘The Black Intellectual Roundtable’. It had an impressive panel of guests making sophisticated arguments about race and identity politics and there was some decent back and forth….. Brett chimed in at one point about how it was all a conspiracy from the elites to try and start a race war….. I have to imagine his guests were all thinking wtf!! They politely ignored this and carried on conversation in the real world.

Chris Wishy

I think you understand this, but you breeze past it in the episode. Brett leans into the “I haven’t changed, the democrats have!” Trope. I know I have felt this way. I think that is a key way he pulls in American politically disaffected people.

John Corey

That was sad to hear. I do wonder what their listeners are like, for example, are they primarily middle aged white people? The clown car part was amusing at least.

Linda Sears

What‘s the source for the Mounk stuff?

mobitobi

Question for the Anthropologist and a Psychologist about people being radicalized . Is there a way back ? Are there situations where they have turned it around ? What's the mechanism to do so? Intervention? Listening to theses two, I just can't see a way back. Mental!

Colin Fardey

This might reveal a lot about me, but a 'speed decoding' of the 'dark horse' podcast suggests a race announcement format: "Here's Bret and Heather, they're lining up aaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnddd *they're off* there's Bret with the ad hominim to Fauchi, a strong opening; Heathers close behind with an appeal to probability as they round the corner; Bret winks at anti Semitism over the first hurdle; Heather is misusing mathematical terms with a reference to Baysian analysis to refer to Boolean logic; and Bret has slipped! He's slipped! What at Non sequitur! And Heather takes the argument by a nose with an appeal to the Baconian fallacy dressed up as 'evolutionary principles', and will win the straw man."

Ymirsdreams

A bit like Matt - I know I should be angry because Brett and Heather are covid disinformation super-spreaders, but that was just so OTT batty I just feel baffled and a little sorry for them even though they don't deserve it.

Artemis Green

A brisk 48 minutes!

Ethan Milne

Matt and his hair are both excellently photogenic!

Emma

They are just absolutely insufferable

Kyle Wilson

I have faith

He is up to the challenge.

Christopher Kavanagh

Video content is going to put a lot of pressure on Matt's hair game.
