Hola everyone,
A new year has begun and both Matt & I have been a bit busy with family and academic commitments but we are aiming to get a bunch of content out soon and wanted to let you know about it.
So here it is what we are aiming to get out before the end of January (at least for Patreon folk).
1. A special episode on Konstantin Kisin's recent address to the Oxford Union: We found this to be incredibly rhetoric-heavy and thus worth an extended breakdown. Especially as it was so well received in the heterodox sphere and so many framed it as making very strong arguments. This is not our defence of wokeness... but a call for better standards of criticism.
2. Daniel Dennett Decoding episode: Matt's special request and a man who looks like the dictionary definition of a guru/philosopher. The talk we are using is available here for anyone who wants to play along: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZX6awZq5Z0
3. Decoding Academia episode on a recent paper investigating the Mandela Effect. Exactly what it says on the tin paper is this one: "The Visual Mandela Effect as Evidence for Shared and Specific False Memories Across People" (Prasad & Bainbridge, 2022).
The following are on the slate but will probably arrive in February:
4. Bill Maher & Dave Rubin Decoding episode: Based on Rubin's appearance on Club Random available here- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ldl0H2IUng. This one is going to be a doozy as it is heavy on Covid and enlightened centrism chat.
5. A special episode on Jordan Peterson & Mikhaila discussing Jordan's ongoing controversy with the Ontario Clinical Psychologists board. This is also one that we can't overlook. The Peterson persecution complex is on full display and leads to some wild claims.
We also might return to the Weinsteins a bit with Eric's appearance with UFO debunker Mick West and Bret's... ongoing madness.
That's at least some of what is coming up. Thanks for all your support as ever.

Sounds excellent. Particularly excited to hear from JP again! Would you consider doing something on Andrew Tate? I remember once Chris said something like he didn't want to decode gurus who were too obviously nut jobs because there's no sport in it. But Tate has managed to be extremely influential inspite if being obviously insane (well just my take). And while his rhetoric aimed at his teenage boy followers is pretty dumb. But the overarching strategy is unfortunately quite clever, in an toxic malevolent way. Like combining pickup culture and incel culture and the younger generation's (to me very valid) angst about the state of the economy and their desire to find some sort of loophole to a life of comfort. Plus there is a lot of warped evolutionary psychology.

2023-01-23 12:24:30 +0000 UTCThis looks like a really nice line-up. In particular, I am excited about the Dennett decoding. I have a feeling, hopefully justified, that this will generally be a positive decoding along the lines of the Carl Sagan one.

2023-01-22 03:44:23 +0000 UTCAll sounds good. Why not get onto Mick West and have a chat with him also? He's a sound fella and is very well clued in with the UFO guru/grifter scene.

2023-01-20 16:12:02 +0000 UTCOh, I'm just making flippant comments for lolz about Dennett apparently looking like the dictionary definition of a philosopher. I do know way less about Dennett than I do about the other 'four horsemen', which I take as an indication that he's not as guru-y as the rest of them. He did give a TED talk? https://www.ted.com/talks/dan_dennett_the_illusion_of_consciousness My guess is that the DTG guys don't want to be controversy vultures and need a break from the IDW shenanigans. And they do cover people who are less guru-y.

2023-01-19 22:06:51 +0000 UTCI thought Dennett was reasonably well regarded - definitely wouldn’t have had him as an overt guru type. Looking forward to this one

2023-01-19 20:22:15 +0000 UTCRe: Daniel Dennett, looks like I disagree with Matt about philosophy again - I think of Camus and Foucault when I imagine a 'stereotypical' philosopher. This all sounds cracking and I'm looking forward to listening to the episodes when they come out. Edit: I just did an image search for philosophers and it is about 50/50 bearded/non-bearded, so perhaps Matt and I are both right. For anyone wondering, I considered whether to give female philosophers their own category, but decided they fit well into the 'non-bearded philosopher' category.

2023-01-19 12:11:33 +0000 UTCSounds like good stuff. I’m especially eager to hear about that up and comer Peterson, seems like a promising acolyte in the Gurusphere.
