Chris' appearance on Beyond Synth

Hey everyone,

For anybody interested I did a long form interview on a Synthwave podcast. We talk about DTG, my research, my accent, and culture war movie stuff.

Might be of interest to some! The music is pretty good though I didn't hear anything at the time. Also recorded this at 1am so that's why I sound that gravelly.

New episode coming soon(ish).

Speaking of synthwave, I also like to listen to it while doing work like grading papers. Here is an interesting track that has samples from the movie Cyborg. It is about a post-apocalyptic world in which a psychopathic....errm... guru does not want scientists to come up with a cure for the plague because he likes the dead, he likes the misery, he likes THIS WORLD! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjif2ecFzYc

I really enjoyed the books and text adventure as a kid. I reread them when I turned 42. The message at the end of So Long And Thanks for All the Fish most resonated with me on the re-read. But yeah, with all of their ample free time, Matt and Chris should be "decoding" pop culture. Hitchhiker's Guide, Always Sunny (coming soon?), Robocop, etc...

Journey of the Sorcerer + Hitchhiker's Guide... I can hear it! Arthur C Dent, it all makes sense. I love the sitar, percussion, and the modified melody of the Gurus version. I think it worked out really well.

Matt’s composer friend and some Eagles song associated with the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

Cool show! I kind of wanted you guys to talk about The Decoding the Gurus music which I've always liked. Where does it come from, anyway?

brianshmrian

This was awesome! The catharsis I felt during the last Jedi discussion was just what I needed today haha.

Heath Lancaster

Glad to hear it!

Christopher Kavanagh

Ha! Young person, suck it Matt!

Christopher Kavanagh

Yeah it’s mostly an odd crossover! But thought some might enjoy. And interesting info on Hans!

What a crazy Gad Saad clip… brought to you by amazing Patrons like Dave Lavelle! Not the Dave Lavelle that Chris’ grew up nearby but another better version with the same name.

Christopher Kavanagh

Chris you need to start shouting out patreons like this. I'm awesome? Might be nice to hear it every once in a while. ..!

That was a great interview! Very weird music, but now I know what synth music is. So weird….Really intriguing and a little comforting to hear young people getting nostalgic for the culture they grew up with.

Lucy

I enjoyed the music a great deal. The conversation was good as well.
