Elon Musk & Twitter bottled discussion (Audio)

Hey everyone,

A 'bonus' discussion of recent business on Twitter and with Elon Musk.

We thought this would be good to do so we don't have to mention it again and we can avoid a lengthy intro on the Elon episode.

Hopefully of some relevance to people who do not use Twitter but no promises.

This is the unedited audio version, hopefully with better levels than last time! Update: Levels not fixed! Will work with Matt on this, we tried to fix this time.

I’m listening to this for the first time in April 2025. Oh, how optimistic and naïve we were back then.

Think when Sam Harris is taking the moral high ground and deactivating the Man Child’s plaything ( though I agree it’s more nefarious and likely he’s developing a payment platform and crypto will feature so goodbye to all that went before) it’s time to go…Otherwise starts to look a bit sad and desperate. It’s been awful for ages , it’s not real life as they say and the Man Teen Edge Lord gives the opportunity… like the sound of Matt’s tone around Musk thus far- he’s a long standing liar- of course he is , as respects no one else’s intelligence and this is where that leads. The stuff about his degrees alone if true is fascinating…

I just listened to the end of the Manvir interview with Chris’s reading of the review comparing him and Sam Harris. It’s biases all the way down! I’m always reminded of the HL Mencken quote: “criticism is prejudice made plausible.” Or as my teacher used to remark: it’s not what you say, it’s what you have to say.

Enjoyed this. From a recent david aaronovitch column: 'Among some people there is a need not just to be seen and appreciated but to be constantly inside other people’s heads — to be what you might call a “psychic imperialist”.' Psychic imperialist seems like a nice fit for how you describe Musk. Probably another way of saying "narcissist", but less obviously pathologising

Very good. Thanks for the recommendation!

Just got put on to Thunderf00t's YouTube content about Elon. I haven't watched much, but just watching a couple of his recent videos made me think it could be a valuable research asset for you guys in assessing Elon. This one did a great job reviewing the degree to which Elon has deceived the broader public/consumer base about the kinds of capabilities his various companies will achieve within specific timeframes - https://youtu.be/uO9yw9QThzU - recommend checking it out if you get the opportunity. I think Chris in particular will also appreciate Thunderf00t's deeply sardonic presentation style.
