Hey everyone,

I feel like I'm stuck in groundhog day at the minute but am reporting that another bout of kid-related illnesses has belayed our output this month.

We have the Manvir interview episode with added intro/outro segments about ready to go (should be out later today). For those not on Twitter, these include:

  1. Intro
  2. Pronunciation of Dylan Moran
  3. DiAngelo episode Feedback
  4. Matt's Grievance: Tasty Japanese Food Photos
  5. Chris' Grievance: Lex & Elon's 5D Chess
  6. Manvir Singh Interview: Gurus, Prophets, & Shamans
  7. Review of Reviews
  8. Patron Shoutous

And forthcoming we also have the DiAngelo Gurometer bonus episode and our overdue Decoding Academia episodes. We are going to do one on the Haidt-SPSP controversy/kerfuffle over mandatory DEI statements but otherwise we have a backlog of papers to get to.

We are also overdue with the conversation with Dave Pizarro about It's Always Sunny (indulge us) and have scheduled a Guru Right to Reply with Jamie Wheal this week. Though we might try to reschedule as currently Matt isn't available at the relevant time.

Our next Guru is old Elon Musk. Not just because of Twitter but because we always planned to end the tech season with either him or Thiel. If you have any suggestions for material we would be interested to hear.

More news to come but just wanted to give a heads up to everyone.

Appreciate the patience and support!

Hey as an idea for interesting sideshows, I'd be very interested in listening to Chris and Matt debate something... Take opposing viewpoints, maybe ones which feature in the guru-sphere or maybe not... I think it would be a model of deep thought masquerading as good humoured competitive commonwealth snark Any chance?

Yes this!

This one too.. https://waitbutwhy.com/2017/03/elon-musk-post-series.html

There are multiple interviews with Lex who counts Elon as a friend. Elon is concerned about AI existential threat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smK9dgdTl40 Interesting that he wants a government referee on that.

Lex on Elon on Twitter a short clip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3U3dyJEI54

Get well soon all!

I also tweeted to this to Guruspod. "Elon Musk Reveals He Has Asperger’s Syndrome On 'SNL' " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sr_SPUGJTwE

Was it on a Guruspod tweet that I found this link to Kara Swisher's podcast? It was excellent listening. https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/elon-musk-somebody-that-i-used-to-know/id1643307527?i=1000586088919

Sorry to hear about illness. In the meantime you might as well, umm, manvir us. Which is to say *ahem* manvirus.

Could you do Camille Paglia, please?

We will do a bunch of left wing gurus soon and Chomsky is on the list.

I'd be keen for Timothy Snyder. He's easily the public intellectual I have paid most attention to this year. I love him! But I think there are some guru-ish moments to his public lectures on Ukraine - almost no airtime for legitimate alternative takes, there's definitely an underlying political message to his reading of history, and he's cultivating a big online following. Plus, he gets accused of being henny penny about the future of democracy. And imagine how awesome a guru right of reply would be with him...

Artemis Green

Yeah seconded

Since we are chiming in on ideas, I still would love to hear a Chomsky episode. He was my political guru at my political burgeoning and I’d love to hear your thoughts on his ideas. Cheers, and thanks!

In terms of material I would be interested to hear, not sure if he falls into guru status, but I'd be interested to hear how you guys would handle Ben Shapiro. I say this because my impression is he has several opinions that are highly disagreeable, but often (not always) he appears to try to be intellectually consistent and upfront about his biases. So I wonder if he falls into guru behaviour or if he is just a guy we generally disagree with but accept he has a right to his opinion.

Scott Stacey

Cheers fellas - in particular looking forward to hearing you in good faith dialectic with Jamie Wheal :)

Enjoying the Kara Swisher / Elon podcast. Thanks for the recommendation!
