Bitesize Decoding: Peterson, Murray, & Pageau. (Video) *UNEDITED*

Unexpected Decoding that's in need of editing but thought some of you might enjoy in advance unedited format.

We are looking at some recent content, just dropped today with Jordan Peterson, Jonathan Pageau, & Douglas Murray discussing religion/metaphysics and how important it is to Western civilization.

Not a full decoding but hopefully a tasty treat for the weekend.

UNEDITED Audio version to follow shortly.

Is incelligentsia a word?

What I find most jarring is the way JP swings between trying to say scientists are like the ultimate boogymen (or maybe boogypeople) and science is opposed to religion. But then when he attacks trans people, plus sized models, etc. he tries very hard to support his arguments with a lot of faux science. The whole 'having your cake and eating it to' thing really annoys me. Oh a little off topic but I see he has a new video going after gay parents. He really seems to be deliberately going out of his way to annoy as many groups as he possibly can!

Holy fuck, it’s like when Insane Clown Posse found Jesus but somehow more incoherent & less profound 🀑🧲

I just wanted to call you guys out a bit for saying that Jordan only knows and constantly references Dostoevsky (and Nietzsche... and Jung), when you goddamn well know he's too busy reading "Everything Ever Written About Climate Science" to read anything else! Ascending the divine competence hierarchy while saving Western Civilizationβ„’ is certainly a thankless job. But yeah, every time I hear him talk about those 3 I pretty much say to myself "READ SOMETHING ELSE MOTHERFUCKER"... so I'm right there with you, haha

Sorry, just one more, hope Matt survived the godless killing machine bull sharks.πŸ’™

Hearing the sound of my own voice is divine!

JBP knows all about those opioid mediators. No, I'm not judging the man for the addiction, only the hypocrisy. This dude just needs to go to an American AA meeting to find all the like-minded pals he could ever want. What utter nonsense.

Fixed it in audio version. Hard to fix due to Zencastr in video. Sorry!

only at the start of this, excited to hear it all. just as a heads up though - the JBP audio is very quiet compared to you two. had to keep changing my volume up and down

It occurs to me that these guys are kind of asymptotically approaching their much desired enlightened state, but will never get there, because of a theological concept that they don’t ever talk about, which is ekkenosis (I think). They want to nail down exactly they are going to tie words up into a balloon animal they can believe in without embarrassment, but I would suggest to them that they go whole hog and empty themselves in emulation of Jesus. Just shut up, get off YouTube and give away all your money to the poor. Talk to old people in elderly care facilities, help homeless and stop all of this grasping for confidence. If you want to be a real super saint, do that. Not many people do. I thought similarly during the sensemaker episode when they talked about stopping the broadcasting of their ideas as a possible sign of true enlightenment, which I’m sure they will not in fact do. Jordan always talks about hell, but these guys will be forever stuck in purgatory. Maybe that’s too metaphorical. But that’s what came to mind watching this. By the way, watching Chris’s facial expressions while listening to these guys is a really satisfying feature of the video format. Can’t you just post the raw video to patreon for us, editing be damned?

I think Conspirituality needs to do an episode on neoshamanism. I think Peterson thinks himself a shaman. I read somewhere that he dabbled in it - which interests me because I am Canadian too and also did courses with a fairly well known neoshamanic practioner who has educated probably hundred of people. It's a spiritual path that combines a bunch of disaparate elements - indigenous spiritualities, witchcraft, new age, transpersonal psychology, generalized Eastern metaphysics. I have not heard Peterson say it outright (that would be gauche, I was taught shamans never name themselves shamans) but I wonder if his brush with death made him go further into that belief, as he now sees himself as having survived a test from God equivalent to the empowerment he seeks. He seems intent on arguing that there is little difference between the dream and reality - the line between imagination and reality is very thin in that belief system. This makes sense to me based on Peterson's love of Jung, and how people in neoshamanic circles see Jung as a European mystic shaman who was able to derive such brilliant insights by travelling in the dream the way shamans do. I suspect you know a lot more about this than I do, Chris and Matt, but my understanding is that idea was reinforced by folks like Stanislav Grof who widely promoted transpersonal psychology and neoshamanism - arguing in the shamanic madness as a sacred awakening, quite different from regular psychosis. I am not sure there is a modern guru who really represents that belief system in an overt way. When someone like a Weinstein wants their specialness recognized, they just come off as cerebral narcissists, but Peterson...he sees himself on a prophet's mission. But there is an irony there. You get the sense that if Peterson brings himself to close to the precipice of the belief that the dream is reality, he might fall off the cliff illustrating that the shamanic sickness is in fact reflective of being divorced from reality. Listening to him talk, he seems flooded with insights in the same way people who have recently come from a drug trip talk - Like no one else can understand the intensity of the realness and truthness they have lived through... Those are profound experiences, but you can become badly lost if you get too attached to that hyperreality, plus your friends will find you insufferable for a while until you integrate it...
