Another interview to share this time with Nathan Allebach covering weird twitter, online brands, conspiracy thinking and teaching information literacy.
This was a really enjoyable one and we range quite widely and have some meta-conversations about managing parasociality as podcasters. Indulgent and sensemaking... a little... but also something that I think all people who make content should be thinking about, at least a little.
We had some problem with the video recording software so the quality is not great for the video but the audio should be ok and I'll upload an audio only version soon.

2022-04-30 21:51:43 +0000 UTCHe's been canceled for a while now, I suppose, but David Foster Wallace has this quote about irony being the song of a bird that has learned to love its cage. Postmodern intellectual/literary types and other eclectics have been pointing out irony as a reactionary force (especially in political discourse) way before boomers started talking about shitposting. At that point, we're much closer to the predominant consumerist ideology than some act that carries even the potential of cultural subversion. Shitposting was pure nihilistic, dissociative hyperconsumerism far before a teenage leftist complained about its commodification on Twitter, before the word even existed, or before FYAD invented the whole thing of what later became weird Twitter. It's a good topic, though, thoughtful and interesting guest. Enjoyed the episode.
