Truth, Trust, and Culture War w/ Zubin Damania, Christopher Kavanagh, Ben Burgis, and David Fuller

Hello everyone...

Remember that 'The Stoa' channel? Well Peter Limberg asked me to come back to have a conversation about trust & the culture war with a rather eclectic panel.

I agreed and actually found the conversation quite refreshing because a lot of it centred on the problems with the heterodox sphere rather than what the mainstream does wrong.  I was also able to raise some points with Zubin directly that I've been ruminating on recently. The focus on heterodox space issues might have something to do with my presence or it may have happened naturally. In any case, I think some of you will be interested in the discussion.

On a side note... I noticed Curtis Yarvin was hosted on the channel about 7 days ago. To say I am not a fan of this man and do not agree that any channel needs to host him is an understatement. I have concerns about any channel that would chose to promote his content without significant push back. Nonetheless, for that reason I also think it is precisely an audience like that in The Stoa that could benefit from hearing a discussion about the issues with the heterodox space.

So I'm not blind to such concerns and appreciate others will make different cost/benefit analyses but I don't think my name, and this discussion, offers any general stamp of approval.

Interested to hear any opinions on the content or meta-decision to participate.

Ya that stands to reason.

Christopher Kavanagh

The Stoa had Aleksander Dugin on once. No push back.

Sharon Mandair

Think this was meant for the Nathan Allebach episode?

Christopher Kavanagh

Cheers!

Christopher Kavanagh

Just watched and loved it! Chris, you were masterful, honestly.

Also his assessment that Hasan doesn’t do politics now is very wrong. I have told YouTube many times to stop recommending him and it’s always political stuff. He’s a socialist streamer who games. Not a gamer.

My previous experience listening to ZDogg (in a discussion with Peter Attia) made me want to punch my listening device. Now that I can see that ZD is a visual clone of Attia - a bald fitness warrior with muscles popping out of the tight business shirt - maybe I can view him as comedy.

I know this is really shallow of me but the Stoa intro music is so "edgy " it takes me a bit to take their videos seriously

I understand that POV but I think he is right that for better or worse Joe isn't going away. Any efforts that could successfully reduce his anti-vaxx promotion would be beneficial but I'm not optimistic either.

Christopher Kavanagh

Just bad timing I think!

Hmmm, Mr Fuller thinks Joe Rogan, he of the file on his phone for health notes from 6 months, no, maybe a year, of talking to experts, is going to do actual research on controversial health(Covid) guests. He only made $100 million from Spotify, what’s he supposed to do, hire a researcher or two? Mr Fuller may not be an academic but he lives in the proverbial ivory tower. He’s the one who needs to grow the fuck up.

Tom McCool

Haven’t watched yet, but Fuller does not look impressed. Mistimed screen shot or the inherent seriousness of sensemaking?

It’s a tricky line but i agree it’s important to be able to offer your perspective and critique in these settings. I look forward to seeing this.
