Official Monthly Update (September 29th, 2023)

This post is going to be a little longer than normal. Over the course of 2023, I've had to do some serious reflecting as an author. When I wrote Dragon Estate, I was experiment with dark fantasy. The response I got was astounding. I was shocked it had done so well because one of my niche genres, dark fantasy with dragon girls, was not very common.

Needless to say, I came from a place of writing shorter, pretty standard post-apocalyptic harem. Dragon Estate was a huge departure and also the first thing I wrote that was solidly over 50,000 words. It put a lot of (good) pressure on me to improve. With Dragon Estate 2, I pushed a little further. At this point Dragon Estate 3 has been in development for almost a year. I'm aiming for October or November, but I'm not entirely sure when it will come out.

I haven't given up, though. I will finish it, even if it takes me a while. I don't want to store to be left open ended and there's much to resolve.

But, the delayed release and sparse publishing over 2022 and most of 2023 made me reflect as author. Why was I publishing things so slowly? Why couldn't I write more consistently?

I'd developed a bit of paranoia over the quality of my releases. I used to just 'write' and whatever came out is whatever came out. The words flowed and that's all that mattered. With Dragon Estate, I tried pushing myself.

I'm not implying I don't care when I write, or didn't before, just that I wanted to try and expand what I could do and push the limits of what I was capable of. Unfortunately, I think this had some sort of psychological effect on me of extreme anxiety over simple things that were never a problem before.

So, reflecting on 2023 led me to a couple conclusions. If you've been on the Discord, you'll know I've mentioned consistency and more frequent books as a major goal of 2023 and 2024. But here, on Patreon, I'm going to cover something else I want to do.

I think it's critical that I have something less experimental and more inline with my roots, and I think this should be a primary focus. For example, I should have something like Desperate Times running at all times, say something every month, with something like Dragon Estate every few months.

So, the end of September marks a huge change and resolution: going forward, I will be writing material more in line with my older stuff, specifically post-apocalyptic. Something new that will be added is survival horror. I want to do this genre a lot more. It's what I grew up on, so I will be incorporating it a lot more into my material.

Expect a lot of zombies or monsters and post-apocalyptic wastelands. I can write about these settings, making them each unique, with different types of harems. Say one harem is all fox girls, another is dragon girls, another is demonesses, maybe one is bunny girls, another is goblins, one is combination of the few, etc.

There's a TON of possibilities that I can't wait to explore.

So, if you're reading this, you are the first to know about the upcoming content I'm creating. 2023 was necessary for me to grow as a writer and I am ever appreciative of every reader's feedback. I need this as an author to grow.

Here are my plans for the remainder of 2023, and after, 2024:

*non-standard genre means that it's still harem and follows the rules, it's just something that's not post-apocalyptic or survival horror

As you can see, 2024 focuses a lot of fox girls and demonesses. There is one with all human women, as well, and another that features different types of monster girls.

Reflecting on my releases and upcoming material has made it clear which genres I will primarily focus on going forward. Obviously, post-apocalyptic + some sub-genre, but my other primary focus is dark fantasy + slice of life + some sub-genre. I think those are my primary genres and I'm going to work hard on perfecting them.

At some point, I'd like to try 1st person. Someday.

Well, that's my update for this month. I am so excited about the upcoming releases.

Have a fun weekend!
