Y'all finally got me to get to the bottom of the Squid Game subtitle controversy English subtitles v English CC. I usually have English CC on all shows, even English speaking ones. English CC is the "autogenerated translation"/ word for word translation and says if its [quirky music] or [door opens]. English subtitles gives a better translation that includes cultural nuance translations. Because a direct translation of words loses meaning in other languages. When I watched your comments on the potential love confession between the two women in Squid Game it occurred to me that English CC was the translation that said "I'm honored that we were partners" (so the gay version). So for those that have little to no knowledge on the structure of the Korean language English subtitles is better. But for those that are learning the language and like a more direct translation English CC is the way to go. I admit the English CC had me questioning the subtitles a couple times but I wasnt lost on the story or and thoroughly enjoyed I got the gay translation. Moral of the story, the gays will find any gay content, period.

Don’t even get me started on the “but you can’t even understand it” ppl suddenly raving about it. Like excuse me no...Sorry but I feel protective of my kdrama and kpop world being diseased with tasteless locals. Obviously it’s good for the show and hopefully will open more ppls eyes to watching foreign language tv and film. But also...stay away
