Absolutely wonderful madness. Would have requested it much sooner if I simply didn't forget about it... been soooo long. Yet I remembered every goddamn scene. Yeah, that cat scenes were controversial. Still is. The deceased cat (I can't find confirmation on if it ever was actually dead on screen, there are conflicting statements) were stray that were to be put down and were humanely and peacefully put down like all others set to be put down. Tough choice to make to use in the movie, and very controversial. You could argue that someone could take it as a pet after all, but if not used in the film, it would have been put down anyways. Problematic, but it's the choice they made, so... And the stress of the abusement scenes, however short they tried to make it and sedated it was. But overall an absolutely fantastic movie in my opinion, it's not too horrible in my opinion, but it sure pushed a boundary on the cat scenes. Quote: "... the cat scenes were carefully filmed, with a veterinarian and animal cruelty inspector on set. Nicholas Hope, in an on-stage interview included on the dvd of the film, says there were two cats, one of which became a pet of a crew member. The other was a feral cat that was put down by a vet after filming (as with most feral cats that are caught in Australia).” Also, main actor was micced up with binaural mics to make him really sound... surrounding I guess and in your head at times. It won awards for the sound design.
