Who Owns the Skulls of Chuuk Lagoon?

New season!

Twenty episodes from Micronesia and the Marshall Islands starts today in Truk/Chuuk Lagoon. It's probably the single best dive spot on the planet, with dozens of accessible wrecks in near-perfect visibility. But it's also an underwater graveyard for over 4000 Japanese invaders.

And the real question I'm asking today is, what is Chuuk supposed to do with their skulls?

Love to you all,
Evan and Kata

p.s. It has been an extremely fast summer helping out with family and getting our lives in order but at long last we're back and ready to rock. I'm probably sitting on a year and a half of weekly episodes right now, ready to be edited and released. Excited for y'all to see them. You're the reason we keep coming back to this little series.

The diving is Chuuk is beyond anything I've experienced. I'm sure that was a special experience for you too. The term Caroline Islands referred to the entire region encompassing Palau, Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae, before the Federated States of Micronesia was established in 1986. The Republic of the Marshall Islands was considered just outside of the region. You can still use the term today to identify the region, but not many will know it.

Yes, they are part of the Caroline Islands... I think the groupings can be a little confusing and not very clear-cut. The entire region is referred to as Micronesia which includes island nations such as the Marshall Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). Chuuk is one of the states of the FSM. I think the name Caroline Islands is used as a geographical name to describe the entire archipelago, although it's possible that it was initially used to describe patterns of colonization. (Kata)

Nice, but I looked on the map and I think Chuuk is in the Caroline Islands?
