I finally bought a car - and here's what I got

It's taken me too long to get this process rolling, but with some very generous help I've finally gotten... in gear.

I didn't expect you to pootle in with my exact car. 2010 MANUAL NISSAN CUBES REPRESENT! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

An old guy taught me how to drive stick on a WC54 3/4 ton military ambulance. And that was back in 2005. Then never drove a stick until 2022 when I bought a 1984 Camaro Z28 5 speed. 17 years later I hop in the Camaro and just drove it like I knew what I was doing. Long story short, driving stick is like riding a bike. Love the Nissan Cube and I look forward to you documenting your experiences and sharing them with us.

I didn’t have a clue what you were going to say you bought. You didn’t disappoint in the most adorable way!! ❤️

That cup vent doubles as an air freshener over time. Just put a cup full of your favorite scented beverage in the cup holder and do some emergency braking.

Been waiting for this for a long, long time. Looking forward to it, hoping you can try to cover tuning.

I can’t see a Nissan Cube and not think about Technology Connections now 😁

Yay! Super excited for this series. I've been trying to absorb as much engine knowledge from my dad, brother, and husband as they have been working through a variety of fixer-uppers, so this will be a great chance for me to try and actually understand how things work without asking so many stupid questions.

A very cool car! I know you love a bit of quirky, but if you enjoy old, quirky and British, I really recommend a late 80s /early 90s British series called 'the secret life of machines' by Tim hunkin. He has released them all on YouTube, and has a great engine video you may like to take some inspiration from? https://youtu.be/qyVHzJ40JqM?si=VF-zJXFoBsi3nmOX If you're interested?!

Nice!! You’re going all out on this re: the lift, engine, crane, etc… This is going to be an interesting series-can’t wait!!

That's pretty normal behavior for most ICE cars I'm familiar with - I just didn't let it run long enough to settle down. Once warm it's idling between 7-800 RPM most of the time. One thing I have just realized is that the oil pressure light does not come on before the engine starts. It could be the CEL is on because the computer is always seeing oil pressure. I supposed it's possible the light in the cluster has failed but they're all LEDs so I doubt that. I'll definitely need to track down the service manual for this car, and wiring diagrams would be beneficial for the video anyway. But now I'm suspecting the oil pressure switch is stuck closed, and it could be the gas cap is fine. Either way, I'll find out!

Might just be related to the CEL being on (and I'll admit I've been driving EVs for a decade now so my memory's a bit fuzzy)... but it seems a bit odd that it's idling up at 1500 RPM like that. Does it settle down to something lower once the engine's warm?
