An early/test draft of the Aztec sights and sounds video

As November rears its ugly head (multiple contexts there) I find myself in a bit of a pickle - I wanted to get this completed before I started earnest work on the freeze dryer video, but the first shoot of gameplay footage ended up being unusable. So I re-shot it, and knowing that I'm gonna be switching gears, I figured I'd upload this lightly edited gameplay.

One of the stranger things that happened between this shoot and the last was that the overhead mic is a lot worse at picking up my voice. Last time I actually wore a lav but found during the test edit that the overhead mic was picking up my voice 80% as well as the lav was, and managing the two audio streams was fiddly so this time I decided to only use the overhead mic. I think it's still perfectly acceptable, but let me know if you disagree.

I'm hunkering down to try and get the script finished for the freeze dryer video in the next couple of days - if I can, that video will be made and released on or before Halloween. If I can't... well I'm 50/50 on making it the introductory video for No Effort November. I've always enjoyed the part of the bit where people refuse to believe those are lower effort than typical, and maybe I'll lean into it. We'll see how the next couple of days go!

He's not marking the outtakes, but rewinding the teleprompter. He did a behind the scenes tour of the old studio a while back, but I can't seem to find it

I just posted something similar in the comments on YouTube… just do a segment on your gear. I’m fucking losing sleep on wondering what the fuck you’re pressing to mark the outtakes. Please and thank you

Ryan Kay

The sound quality is perfectly good to me though I was a bit distracted because for some reason it looks like the guy behind the bonus ladder is wearing a Hatsune Miku codpiece and I can’t unsee it

Except for games which have more layered rulesets, not that long! It's just much more tempting to feed it quarters and learn-as-you-go than it is to read the instruction cards and study the playfield.

Ok, that makes sense! I must have missed the reasoning for this video! The future thanks you Alec!

I like it! How long does it take to figure out a game strategy for a pinball machine of this era?

Markintosh

That, but also one of your fellow patrons (who is blind) requested more of an audio focus, and I've decided to make audio descriptions part of the scope here, too. So eventually I'll be describing the machine's shape and size, the layout of the playfield, and also the mechanisms which power it. A lot of that will just be voiceover on top of B-roll I already have, but some new filming will probably happen, too.

I believe Alec has previously indicated that the point behind the "Sights and Sounds" videos is to archive... the sights and sounds... of the thing. Usable as a primary source to people doing basic research in 50, 100, 500 years. Its not general interest.

I'm sure this will do well as all of your videos do, but I just can't watch it for more than a few minutes. Maybe it's my current mood or something, but I find it too dull. It's just not for me and I'm sure it will do fine. Thanks!
