I tested out my car's vehicle-to-load system and it's pretty awesome

Hi! So I've been meaning to do this test for a while, and as this is part of the "how to manage a power outage" conversation in the upcoming Home Electrification 2: Some Kinda Boogalo, now's the time to do it to have raw numbers for the script.

This is a very casual video made entirely on my phone, and I won't be waiting for the second video to be ready to release this. I'll probably just do it tomorrow.

Oh, and I've been live-tooting my progress on Mastodon so I'm gonna post a link to the video there now, too.

kay bye!

I’m not sure how that would help. You’ll lose a lot of power charging a battery from a battery. Unless you’re assuming the car can still go somewhere with fast charging?

If you run the power intermittently, keeping an eye on fridge and freezer temperatures, the battery could last significantly longer. If one is afraid of longer power outages, one could also use a small mobile battery power solution that one tops up from the car whenever it's nearly empty.

Great job showing how using a BEV as an emergency device! And speaking of emergency, it was the tragic Fukushima quake and tsunami (12 years +2 days ago) that first prompted the "V2H", or "LEAF to Home" as Nissan called it. I think this was the first ever high amp power out system, for sure for a production car. This was introduced in 2012 in Japan, but not find info on its adoption. Looking at little it seems only very recently has Nissan incorporated full V2H support. My guess is car companies are nervous about become a power station, and something happens that cause a house to burn down. A GUESS why Hyundai used this special adapter is to provide a level of legal isolation in case of worst case incident. Then again, perhaps simply to located 110v power outside the car enclosure.
