A simple video about a simple thing

For real this time!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnJZSk4JHFM

As you may have guessed I've taken a bit of a rest over the holidays, but I'm back! And there's plenty o' stuff happening. But that stuff will take a lot of effort, so in the meantime here's a simple "let's look at a thing" video. Hope you enjoy it!

This is hot off the presses, so there's work to be done, of course. Captions coming soonly!

I thought of that, too, but those looked round to me. Hard to tell from the video, though.

One nifty unintended feature of the electrically-driven mechanical timers that use mains power is that they can let you see how long your power was out if there was an outage. Of course, any other electric mechanical clock (as opposed to electronic digital) can do the same, but I'd bet that one of these is the only electric mechanical clock left in many homes.

10:27 I can’t see if the wires are soldered or not, it’s possible this is a wire wrap binding post. I’ve never seen it on mains voltage before, but was very common in the earlier days of telecommunications. Square peg, round wire wound tight. It does the trick!
