People talk about hydrogen like it is an energy source when it is really more of a storage / transport medium.

Seems reasonable. As batteries get lighter and store more, and motors get more efficient the fast charging systems will become redundant. With you on the hydrogen bit. It was a smart idea but very quickly (for cars) only attractive to fossil fuel businesses. I'm not entirely sure but I think batteries will replace hydrogen in planes, trains and ships before they really get going, simply because the transformational energy is too expensive.
