Status report

Hello all you lovely people,

It's been a while since I've checked in with you. The quick turnaround of the coffee maker video made me hopeful that I could get the next video out by the end of August, but that video turned out to be a monster.

This will be by far the longest single video I've done for the main channel, and I don't want to split it up. I'm finally following up the DC fast charging video with that I had originally termed an "EV Charging Glossary," but which has become a complete guide for living with an electric car with guidance and suggestions based on my experiences. I could break it into a playlist, but for the sake of being a one-stop-shop, I don't wanna do that.

So it's pushing an hour long!

I'm pretty confident as of the last read-through that I'm ready to shoot it. My plan is to do that tomorrow and get it edited down. Once it's had its first rough pass, I'll upload it for you to see. I'd like your feedback on it while I work on piecing B-roll and whatnot together. Frankly it's probably gonna be a lot of my face with some white boards here and there, but that's exactly why I want to take my time with it.

That's what's been goin' on, and that's where we're at. I hope to have the beginnings of the video for you tomorrow.

Toodles!

Off topic, but you got a shout out on Dear Hank & John this week!

I would love to see some movement in vehicles for people like me that have a home we pull behind a truck. My wife and I travel around the US and I work from this 29 foot, 280 square foot trailer. So far the best options I’ve seen is a Rivian truck that gets up to 100 US miles of towing range between charges. I do about 1200 miles over a weekend and then stay a week in a particular location, usually a city close to a national or state park. Even if options to tow are not currently practical, I would love to know the state of the art. In ten years I would love to turn my volunteer work for assisting disaster survivors into my main portable lifestyle. I would like a renewable and environmentally beneficial energy source to be part of that goal.

I work for an EV charging station manufacturer - albeit only started a few months ago and on the software side - but if you have any questions, hit me up and I'll try to dig a bit!

But lest we forget the greatest epic of the channel, the 5 volume 3 part saga on the CED!

I was advising against recaps and such.

I bet three short videos will get more cumulative play time the first week but I think one long video will serve as a better reference video for years to come. Not all YouTube players have easy access to curated playlists and trying to find "part 3 of 3" in five years might be challenging.

Well, he did explicitly say he doesn't want to break it up, and I prefer that. That keeps the flow going, and he doesn't have to stop at the start of each video and recap the others, or say "to understand this, you gotta watch [x] and [y]"

As a guy with 2 electric motorcycles (my only transportation along with my FJR1300) and serious issues with all the broken chargers around here, I'm really looking forward to it. I hope I can contribute useful comments.

This will be awesome!!!

Looking forward to it

New video, yay. But take your time so it comes out to your standards, no pressure. P.S. Shift+Enter doesn't work on mobile :(

Do the full hour but break it into three 20 minute chunks and release them over 5 days! You'll get the bump for being around 20ish minutes (I've heard that tends to be a sweet spot for length on channels like this, but I could be wrong) and you'll pop for a burst of content! And don't be too tidy where you cut leave on a cliffhanger, "with this design choice, there were only two options for the car... In part 2!" Smash to black.

I went from Dallas to Phoenix in the Niro EV and it worked but EA needs to fix their stuff. ?luckily? For me I only charge at max 77kw so when the EA stations are slow it’s not good but I’m not expecting a quick 18 minute stop

a whole hour of watching you educate me? Oh dear me, whatever will I do? Probably..sit back and have an unhealthy snack while watching the whole thing, lol.
