To Bloop or not to Bloop?

OK, well maybe I've been a little too conservative with my judgment. So I'll put it to you - should I re-edit the ending with the patented Smooth Jazz and Bloopers of Bloopiness or no?

If the answer is no, I'll edit together the outtakes as a Patreon exclusive. But if yes, then I'll re-upload (and fix that typo!)

Comments

I'm a patron because of the bloopers! Hi. Hi. Hi. Hi. Hi. Hi. Hi.

John Sanchez

I think you should just go full on deep nerd during the credits. You know what I’m talking about, my man. Give us the good deets you are holding back on.

John Laur

Dun dun.

The Legacy

And bleeps!

Arthur Robillard

GOTTA HAVE MY BLOOPS!

Chester Plemany

Love the bloopers, really hope they remain.

DeltaMax

Always bloop.

Chris Crowther

Bloop away, they're great....

AB1DQ

Keep the bloopers and "Smooth Jazz", always a great ending......

Hi Alec: Vince here. Thanks for asking for our opinion. I say YES, leave the bloopers in. Love them and gives a more personal look into the making of your videos. Keep up the great WOIK !!

Vincent G. Calvacca

I’m thinking this one is a serious topic for a serious time. “A Very Special Episode”, if you will. No bloopers on this one.

Joseph Spiegel

The bloopers probably add to your average watch length. I’m guessing that’s good for the mythical YouTube algorithms

Ash

I love the bloopers and the music.

I slept through the poll and subsequent blooper addition, but I would have voted to add them.

Mike Chimeri

I enjoy the bloopers. It just shows you are human, & have a sense of humor.

housevil

I wouldn't have made the decision so hastily, but the results have been very lopsided so there wasn't likely to be a change in outcome

Technology Connections

Just woken up to three emails. One about the video being posted, one with this poll in it, and one with the result of the poll. Could these polls be left up a bit longer for those of us not in the US?

Brad Jones

I also vote jazz without bloopers. Not that I think they wouldn’t be appropriate myself, but just in case. But jazz is a must.

AidenGoode

+1 on this. Love the music, love the bloopers, love the brain-damagingly bad puns. I think it's perfect as is, though I feel your outro music should play once you finish your presentation. I've noticed that it seems to be very delayed as of late.

The Legacy

If you think leaving the bloopers out benefits this particular Video then let them out, but maybe add to the video description why you've done that. Regarding you outro music I want you to listen to me: that part of your video is non negotiable! Add that one back right now.

Your outtro music is crucial. You chose that SO well...I don't know HOW you made that choice of such perfect music...(please tell us how you did that, by the way)....so please never leave that out. BUT, your bloopers are also such an entertaining part. Sometimes, when I am short of time, I skip RIGHT to the end of some of your newer videos just to see the bloopers at the end, and then later, I stop and watch the whole video. Then watch the end bloopers AGAIN! Just so you get my importance on this... BTW, I for one, would love to hear why you chose that format in the first place, because I think it is one of the secrets to your success on Patreon...So if you ever feel like sharing why you chose that in the first place, please know that at least I would love to know this detail, no matter how obscure you think it might be. Thanks for doing what you do! Best always, AJ

I mentioned in the video thread, but also maybe here: There is an app that you can use that uses the flash and the camera on most cell phones of the smart variety.

Include them. Not because of the credits or the Patreon plug or because they're funny per se. Include your usual ending because - regardless of the speedier and timelier circumstances - this is still a valid and evergreen Technology Connections video. Whatever you do, do it quickly so the regular folk can see this!

ErdTirdMans

If you fear that a important message will be lost, leave out the bloopers. I don't think that will happen, but everyone is different. But the jazz is absolutely necessary so that what you have learned can settle down, instead of being immediately thrown into the list of other youtube videos after your last sentence.

Or... just do the outro jazz music w/ credits, and collect the bloopers. And from time to time, make a small blooper-only video...

Simon Sven Troschke

I totally love the bloopers, and I totally love the outro music... it`s so unique. If it isn`t to much work, I would like it with music and bloopers.

Simon Sven Troschke

I vote add in jazz with no bloopers

I don't think the bloopers make the piece some frivolous or trite. I see them as a reflection of the production process and your frustration with it and yourself. You have already made it clear that you are not a health care professional (perhaps a bit too much) and this vid is about the technology. I also like the jazz during the outro.

Bruce Davis

The bloopers aren't as important as the smooth jazz. It wouldn't be a Technology Connections video without that outro music. You shouldn't omit it, and honestly you probably should never change it, as it adds a degree of timelessness to your video series across the years, allowing future viewers to watch your videos in any order while feeling like they're watching a cohesive and consistent production.

Matt Whitlock

The jazz always made me feel like I was watching a public access show on PBS, which I really like.

I’d be down for 120 seconds of watching your pulse slow on a oxymeter screen as the smooth jazz pours on.

Jacob Ford

I can see both sides of the blooper argument but the smooth jazz outro is kind of a trademark for you at this point.

David LeBlanc

Dude I love your videos, the bloopers are fantastic as well. The only downside is I can't drink anything while watching or I'll choke laughing. The Percolator video bloopers nearly ended my life.

Andrew Dousay

The smooth jazz is just part of the branding at this point and it feels wrong not to have it. I understand the thought behind not including bloopers - for first time viewers that come across this video because of medical concerns in this pandemic, having bloopers may appear insensitive to they who do not know your channel. I doubt your regular videos would take any such offense.

Duncan Middleton

it it, perhaps, somehow possible to choose more "conservative" bloopers so that you can keep the slightly more serious tone and still give everyone the denouement and final expected chordal resolve of the end music with them?

Deviant Ollam

I always enjoy you arguing with yourself. I frankly don't care to see my name, but I love the bloopers.

John Lavallée

I missed the signature jazz, and patreon scroller, and the link to other videos. End was quite abrupt.

Raphaël

I always look forward to the bloopers ever since you've started including them at the end of the videos.

Linh Pham

I'm also a little disappointed at the lack of a half-second snippet of the STTMP theme when mentioned. Like, Jerry Goldsmith worked hard for that!

Justin Tokke

Call me a weirdo here (and, I grant you, many people have) wouldn't bloopers seem a bit frivolous on something as serious as a blood oxygen monitor? I mean, this ain't a percolator, a CED or even "brown". This is serious stuff, and it's good to have a change of pace. I'd expect the bloopers back in the next video, though.

Matthew Lawrenson

The bloopers and normal ending is fine, the video isn't insensitive it isn't making any statement regarding the current crisis it's just covering a really interesting bit of kit. I think you've done enough to discourage medical advise. I say just treat it like a normal video, bloopers and all.

Kajico

I, for one, am a bit tired of the insufferably smooth jazz. As fun as the joke is, it's getting stale for me.

Justin Tokke

It says a lot that after the video ended I still got the closing theme music stuck in my head anyway. Clearly my subconscious DEMANDS the outro.

fluffy

I do enjoy the smooth jazz and bloopers you put at the end of your videos - the smooth jazz in particular lends itself well to the nostalgic style of your videos!

Chaz Serir

I don't mind the bloopers, but the jazz is a must. :)

Dim? The camera makes (barely) visible what otherwise wouldn't be. I thought at this point it was fairly common knowledge that IR shows up as a dim purple through most smartphone cameras so I didn't think it needed explanation

Technology Connections

If you are going to go through the trouble of re-exporting and uploading the video you might also want to put a note in that your camera has an IR filter hence why the IR LED seems so dim compared the to red LED.

WizardTim

Oh I wasn't planning on ending the bloopers at all. It was just for this video.

Technology Connections

I didn't mind the lack of an outro - but I did feel the midway (edit: upon rewatching I see that i've misremembered how midway it was) double-down on explaining that it wasn't an advert, and that it definitely doesn't have anything to do with a certain pandemic, was a little counterproductive. I felt that the intro alone struck a nice balance between "I'm not a doctor, make your own decisions" and being generic enough that it wouldn't be immediately connected to the world's current shenanigans.

The subject matter is interesting. I'm sure it will draw some newcomers to the channel, and they should be indoctrinated... err... introduced properly to the full experience.

ChasingSol

There are two kinds of people in the world: Those who like the bloopers and those who need to get a sense of humour. ;)

Parallax Abstraction

Make the bloopers for this video for patreons, and then just add bloopers to the rest of your videos from now on.

Keep the jazz and bloopers!

I really enjoy the bloopers, smooth jazz, and snarky captions.

James Hamilton

yes the end was pretty abrupt.

hfidek

The world being on fire is exactly why we need smooth jazz and bloops

Definitely on team include-the-bloopers over here
