And now, something completely different

I figured I share something that I've been holding onto for a few years.

When I was working for Disney on my College Program in 2014, I took it upon myself to go to Epcot many times to film IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth with a little Nikon camera and a tripod. I wanted to record this because at that point, the show was already 15 years old, and was likely due to be changed.

Well it took until this year, but 2019 will be the last year this fireworks show runs at Epcot. It's a really amazing show, and if you've never seen it, this is perhaps the best recording you'll see.

I sat on this footage for a couple years and finally put it together in 2016. There are a few things I'd like to change about it (and this was still in my Sony Movie Studio days, and since I didn't have the pro version, I couldn't easily do a multi-camera sequence so this was almost entirely manually done. But it was so worth it!) but having watched it for the first time since I put it on YouTube, I think I can say that overall I did a pretty good job.

It's unlisted on my old channel. I could probably make it public but have been hesitant to since I used the music from the show in it. I shared this on Twitter but thought I'd share it here, too. I'll never take this down, so if any of you have fond memories of this show and want to see it again after it's gone, I'm glad to be of service!

Oh wow... they did a similar presentation when I went back in '86, but the stuff on the Spaceship Earth sphere was projected onto it with a very rudimentary laser system. Thank you so much for sharing!

Didn't realize you were a former CP, very cool! I've never been a CM (yet at least) but I love Disney stuff. :)

I needed a little Disney fix today, so this was a pleasant surprise! I love your nearly-perfect blend of the source and in-park audio. I love the angles you chose - especially the one where at 13:00ish you are right behind one of the cannons. Really well done, especially considering your limited tools back then. Maybe you need to go back for a week and re-capture it with modern gear and software? ;-) Thanks for sharing!

Wow!!! It's been a lot of years since I have been to Disney. They didn't have that show when I sent. That was a great video. Loved the capture and editing. You really have talent doing that. I'd love to see a segment on how you made that video.

Always loved the Reflections of Earth show - the music, the timing of the fireworks to work with the music, everyone sitting around the lake as the sun goes down. Even have the CD with the music from the old Tapestry of Nations puppet parade. I’ve never seen a video that has managed to capture the majesty and scale of the show - yours comes the closest! We last went in October of last year and made a point of just sitting back and enjoying Reflections of Earth one last time. No photos, no attempts as videoing. Just soaking it in. Whilst I’m looking forward on what come’s afterwards, RoE will be remembered as a highlight from that period of WDW history. At least I still have Fantasmic!

I last visited Epcot in 2000 and the 'Tapestry of nations' parade combined with the illuminations made for one heck of a show. This video does a great job of capturing how good it was and brought back a lot of fond memories. Thank you!

Thank you so much for the effort of recording and editing this and for sharing it with us. It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for in a recording of IllumiNations Reflections of Earth. I’m really going to miss it.

Very impressive indeed! How many different camera vantages did you use? Looked to me like at least FOUR - and putting it all seamlessly together must have been quite a task. I've not been to Epcot for 20 years and I really enjoyed watching this.

Will Latinette

Thanks - I've never been able to go, this was neat.
