This time it's two videos in one!

It's finally time to unveil HQ! Here's the quick introductory video I shot; it also serves as an introduction for the video I'll talk about in the next sentence:

I decided to buy an Onyx Boox Max2 to test my theory that an E-Ink display would help me sleep. Who knows if it will turn out to be true, but it's worth a shot. I'll be chronicling the experience on the second channel, and at the end (once I've come up with some final conclusions) I'll make a follow-up on the main channel.

I should have everything set up with the linking back and forth of the two videos, so if you click on one you should be able to get to the other. Details like captions, better thumbnails, and completed video descriptions are coming soon.
*Quick clarification: I generally don't do captions for second channel videos because they're unscripted. It just takes too long, but I will of course be doing captions for the main channel!
I’m looking forward to the next generation of large E-ink tablets. I currently use a ReMarkable, but it’s software is a work in progress (it is progressing and I love it). Most importantly you can’t read ebooks with DRM on it, so no Kindle support. Even though the Onyx doesn’t quite fit the bill yet, I’m hoping that between the this, the ReMarkable and the Sony DPS, the next product cycle will be closer to what this cycle promised.

(IIUC, it's specifically an eInk monitor, not a tablet itself.)

Look into the effect of diet (specifically, when you are eating) on your sleep patterns..

Watching your video on the 2nd channel. I have an extra LTX BYOC ticket if you are interested and can get yourself (and hopefully a computer to game on) to LTX that I can donate to your channel.

I'm not sure if you had mentioned it, I think you might have - but have you tried using f.lux to reduce the amount of blue light? (You can set it to a much lower/warmer setting/colour than what it defaults to)

Regarding the lack of on-demand refresh while running it as a monitor, I've a cunning plan. Since it's mostly white, why not have a picture of pure black set almost full screen in a second window. Then whenever you find the ghosting getting annoying, just alt+tab then alt+tab back again. Should only take a second and be almost as good as a proper refresh.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll make a copy of that document and delete the original. I wouldn't really mind either way, but might as well nip it in the bud

You should go to a sleep disorder clinic & see if you're having apnea. When I started using a BiPAP machine, it was like I woke up from the somnambulistic zombie I had become.

Alec. Just noticed on the e-ink introduction video, you have google docs open on the tablet in firefox for quite a while with the URL bar showing. That URL gives me a page to request permission to view the document. You might get a few notifications after that video goes public of random people asking to join your google docs! ☹

You should return this device and get a Sony Digital Paper System.

I came here to also recommend Nova launcher. it may help alleviate part of the home problem.
A quick search also found this guide: <a href="https://android.gadgethacks.com/how-to/broken-buttons-your-android-phone-use-screen-navigation-bar-instead-no-root-needed-0175804/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://android.gadgethacks.com/how-to/broken-buttons-your-android-phone-use-screen-navigation-bar-instead-no-root-needed-0175804/</a>
for enabling the on screen soft buttons, so you'll have a normal home button that can launch nova (in case the one in the status bar is hard coded), a back button, and an app switcher button. I hope it works, but there might be another method to enable them if that one doesn't.

That might be a good idea... it hadn't occurred to me to try that. Worth a shot

If you're not using it as a reader, why not install a 3rd-party launcher like Nova?

Huh, that's odd. I haven't looked at that one yet, so perhaps a re-render is in order

You're getting a few weird blips in the second video where it cuts away from the shot of the device and back to you at the desk briefly - look at about 2:22 and 7:09 for the two I've seen so far
