If any ICs jump out at you, let me know. The one NEC chip that looks interesting needs some deep cleaning before I can read it.

Can you tell us which of the connectors on the PCB bugger off to the head assembly? Also, I'd be very interested in the part numbers of the ICs on the bottom; the ones on the top seem to either be jellybean, entirely unrelated (OSD), or capstan/speed-related.

2019-01-29 04:25:25 +0000 UTCAre you certain that the heads aren't just offset slightly so one will read one field, and the time it takes to get to the next half of the frame is just the blanking interval? That way it can just stop the tape and read the full frame in real time. I see on google's patent search there indeed was piezo electric control of the individual heads for dynamic tracking.. but that seems excessive for this use case? I'm not an expert though... good luck!
