Wouldn't ya know it, things are progressing! And quickly!
It's looking more and more like the end of February will see the first video filmed at HQ. Nearly there!
oops, nevermind, I see in a later video that was done :)

i noticed they drywalled over the blue air pressure monitor bubble level thingie on the radon vent pipe. you really want to cut a hole so you can see that, and occasionally check that there is a proper draft on the vent pipe.

Glenn Fricker on his spectreSound youtube channel is a recording engineer for rock bands. His videos are shot with a mic suspended from the ceiling and held just out of the camera frame above his head. His audio is awesome. You might want to check him out.

Indeed, the enter key to Post is annoying. You can edit your post by clicking the '...' and then the pencil icon to add more. However, if you accidentally press enter a second time, don't edit the post again as Patreon may then descretely delete it, as what happened a few times on me.

I worked as a plasterer for about 10 years, so I'll give you a tip (if you want it...lol)... You see those corner "edges" near the stairs? (English is not my native language so I don't know the term, sorry about that), they look great right?
I'll give you one month before you start nicking them with furtinure etc, even with plastic corners to protect the edges, they don't last that much, so buy some rugged corner protection if you don't want to retouch them all the time. :-) As for the acoustics they will be better when you start moving in some furniture and gear inside the room.

Sorry for doubleposting, I hit ENTER for a line break and it posted the comment.

Funny what you call lazy with regards to shaving. I was ill but had to go to work anyway, so I also skipped shaving (if I have to work while being ill, at least I want to look really bad). Yesterday I worked through two cartridges trying to get

Adding to this, since it was already decided that there wouldn't be a ceiling, and 8 feet of wall was plenty, it was just easier to do it vertically. If down the road I need to put in a drop ceiling, an 8ft ceiling in a basement is still well above average

Looking good!!! I'm excited for ya. Been there and I've done that so I know the feeling. Little by little and step by step you'll get there and we can ALL enjoy the products which will emanate from these new surroundings. Keep up the great work. VGC

In new construction, especially ground floor and higher, it's fairly common to lay rock horizontally, especially if you can use 10, 12, or 16 ft sheets and remove butt seams completely to ease finishing work down the line. Most yards stock 54" sheets, so you can still do this on rooms with 9 ft ceilings.
But, this is a basement, so getting the 10, 12, or 16 ft sheets down a narrow stairwell is almost impossible. As a result, it's usually easiest to use 8 ft sheets vertically to avoid butt seams on walls that are longer than 8 ft.

Curious, down here in Aus, Gyprock is laid horizontal. Must be a North/South hemisphere thing like water spiraling down the sink.

Yes, definitely thick underlay under the carpet will help with the sound. And it’ll help with general room temperature too. The open ceiling should be pretty good accoustically as it’s not a flat surface already. Good to see the progress! It’s really coming together now. Ewen

Speaking of lav mic, I noticed in your earlier videos you were using the Sony ECM-CS3, but you switched away from it later on. Why is that?

Just yesterday I was watching Mat of Techmoan (sounds like a title of nobility) doing a behind the scenes type of Patreon video from last year. He was showing how small his house is and the tiny room he shoots his demos in. He does pretty well with the small space, but I wonder it he looks at your new HQ and gets a little envious.

Carpet will make a *huge* difference. Don't cheap out on the padding underneath, either. The more there is, the more sound-deadening you'll have. Won't be too much longer and you'll be shooting videos from HQ! :-)
