It's gonna be live in like a half-hour, but here it is in your inboxes in case it gets lost in the weeds or something...
I know it. You can fix it by yourself after warranty ends.

Maybe watch the channel of Louis Rossmann before recommending ANY Apple product first. ;-) They are seriously bad.

I said as much in the YT comments regarding CLV/CAV but I didn't know the 5x+ drives compensated for the sector density changes by keeping a constant spindle speed.

From what I could tell reading about DVD-RAM spindle speeds, the 3x DVD-RAM writes using zone-CLV. The rotational speed is kept constant in each zone (34 on 4.7GB disc). However, when the head moves from zone to zone, it must adjust the rotational speed to deliver 3x linear speed for that zone, resulting in faster RPM near the middle and slower at the edge.
5x and faster DVD-RAM speed uses Constant Angular Velocity, maintaining the same spindle speed regardless of the head location. This results in the linear speed varying between 2x near the middle and 5x at the outer edge, but much faster seeking during writes.

Just a chromedisk ... [sigh] Your chromedisk is probably your most secure machine. Unless required, you should use it for web access instead of your other machines. Why? Because if you click on a bad link, malware can't install itself on the chromebook. Also, Go here and look for your chromebook model https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/6220366?hl=en Be sure your AUE date is still in the future so you'll get updates. Once you are past that date the security will diminish since you no longer get any updates, including security updates.

speaking of 4k video... have you done anything that covers just how ridiculously close you have to observe a 4k screen from in order to appreciate the details when compared to 1080p? Off the top of my head, isn't it something like 1.5x screen diameter for 1080p, and half that distance for 4k? So for a 50" 4k tv your head should be something like 2ft away from the screen? It amazes me how many people get a 50-60" tv in 4k, then sit 15ft away from it and claim how much better the detail is!

I kinda forgot that "optical drives usually suck" was the limiting factor on adoption. I wonder how many music CD-Rs I threw in the trash because the drive failed at making it readable in a CD player.

Huh! I didn't see that. I'm pretty new to Chrome OS and, well, I imagine most people don't really mess with it beyond a few settings tweaks. It is just a chromebook, after all...

A quick hint: when you attempt to copy onto the disc using the Chromebook, it's giving an error message on the bottom left corner: "Copy operation failed. This file could not be modified."
