A thing for you to read
Added 2018-11-15 17:41:27 +0000 UTCWow, lots of new patrons since the last video! Welcome, and thank you! From time to time I post little text updates about what's happening, and what better time than when I'm stuck between classes and have nothing to do... Thursdays are awful. Four more weeks...
Since it's been a long long time since I actually put this to paper (or in this case, digital paper), and since many of you are new to the whole Patreon thing, I'll reiterate that my current goal for video production is to have three videos made each month. November's looking like a month where that won't happen :( There's just a lot of crap going on related mostly to family, and I won't bore you with details, but a lot of schedule-rearranging has needed to be done for the sake of my dad who needs medical attention. Nothing is super wrong and he's not going to die or anything, but a lot of things need to be done quickly and the timing isn't super great. But not to worry--this is only a minor setback.
The good news is that the LightScribe video is doing very well and has pulled my channel numbers up, so my Adsense targets are on track. I'm quite glad this happened because it's putting my mind at ease.
A headquarters update--
HQ is coming along nicely, and my dad and I have come up with the plan for the basement. (If you don't know what I'm talking about, it will help to look through older posts) We know roughly the materials we need to order, and we'll be ordering them soon. We decided to change the order of things slightly since rather than beat the old minivan to crap again, we're going to save our backs and I'll pay to have the materials delivered. So, to free up space in the garage, those bats of insulation are in place! There's currently no insulation in the ceiling of the garage (that requires a different type and planning), so that still needs to be done, but at least now I can run a space heater in there and it's bearable. Once we have the lumber and drywall delivered, it's off to the basement. When that starts, I'll be sure to bring you along!
Also a note on the autonomous vehicle video idea of naivete--
Two of you have been amazing by answering my questions via email! As I sort of figured I was barking up a strange tree with the guide wire idea, but! There were great topics discussed which opens a new opportunity for a more broad video I think. Likely a ways off, though.
The next planned video is on closed captioning. This is not only a (hopefully) interesting topic, but I'll be using it as an ad of sorts for community subtitle submissions which I've just turned on after way too long. If any of you have an interest in the topic and would like me to discuss something specific, let me know!
Thanks for your support, everyone!

One recommendation for an upcoming video is the HD format war and the comparison of Blu-rays and HD DVDs
2018-11-19 22:55:59 +0000 UTCMy list of recommendations could go on as I've been observing and reading about many unnoticed oddities. I'm wondering whether you'd be interested in the topic of escalators, including the rare curved ones.
2018-11-17 19:08:35 +0000 UTCI don't have any topic idea at the moment but I will pass them along if I do. I do however have a recommendation for you for something to watch, you channel sort of reminds me of this old British show called The Secret Life of Machines. I know you are busy but I am certain you and your fans will like it.
2018-11-16 02:02:34 +0000 UTCEver consider doing something on electrostatic speakers? My dad has a pair from the 70's that emit tons of ozone.

2018-11-15 23:05:39 +0000 UTCA bit off topic, but if you're taking ideas for future video : a retrospective on the SCART connector
2018-11-15 21:32:00 +0000 UTCCompare/contrast closed captioning from TV programming against subtitles from DVD programming. (Maybe they're the same thing - I don't know.) Touch on why, when I skip ahead/back on my DVR for TV, it takes a few seconds for CC to reappear, while DVD subtitles never lag. And if I'm not unique, maybe also touch on why CC can get wonky, like it suddenly skipping back to dialog from about a minute prior, then quickly running through subsequent dialog (about 4 pages/second) until it catches up.

2018-11-15 20:52:47 +0000 UTCWorldwide audience, go Alec! I thought closed captioning but I couldn't remember if your videos did take a couple of days before CC went live. Thanks for the reply!

2018-11-15 19:31:24 +0000 UTCI've been doing my own English captions since almost day one, so there's no need of help there. The request is for translations, actually, and although I've only just opened this, a few have come through!

2018-11-15 19:08:01 +0000 UTCYes! Closed captioning! If you pass patrons the script, it will make the process very expediant and make your closed captioning near perfect extremely quickly. I will definitely pass your channel to the deaf YouTube community. Hopefully that will get you more subs!

2018-11-15 19:02:35 +0000 UTCClosed captioning, interesting! - Please touch on how it's made on cinema movies - i find it really fascinating how it's handled and done.

2018-11-15 18:39:52 +0000 UTCSorry to hear about your dad, even if it's not super-serious, but I'm glad you're still able to make good progress on HQ. Can't wait for the next video!
