New video! The Sony Tracking System

This ended up getting split in two (with a sort-of bonus video to come soon, but that will go live for everyone tomorrow) and is definitely my silliest video yet. And you will very quickly see why.

Captions will take me a little while, and there is a card I need to add later, but otherwise it's ready to go! Hope you enjoy.

Found this channel a month or so ago, and still have loads to catch up with, but I do love knowing all these little details about how this stuff actually works, and what considerations went into them. Keep it up!

Good video. I have a Rigol and I also do electronics stuff. If you are interested I would be willing to give you my contact info so if you do a video like this again I could give advice over email/SMS.

For those of us who haunt thrift stores and yard sales, and prefer the Philips tracking system: Does anyone know what other brands of disk players licensed and used the Philips technology? Yeah, I realize all I have to do is power a player up, open the disk drawer, and look .... but AC power is rarely available in peoples' front yards, or the typical thrift shop. Thanks!

This video needs a lot of editing. And I really really didn't like the part with the tripod in front of you. The segment where do you show the Sony tracking system with the comparison with the Philips one is excellent. I would release that part only...

Genuine question: which parts do you suggest being cut? All of the scope parts? The recap? I can see that in some sense the "meat" is pushed past 10 minutes, but the scope part was genuinely promised to be in this video and I feel as though I can't remove it, at least completely.

I agree with Bill Basch - please recut this before going live with it. Your Patreon supporters can roll with it, but the YouTube public . . . not so much.

I have seen a few of his vids, and you're right! He's really great. I saw his video on the microscope recommended to me--haven't watched it, but the timing was humorous.

Someone poked Dave on Twitter and I chose the scope I have based on his recommendation! Right now I just don't have many reasons to use it, so I'm not getting much practice. However, I'm sure it will come very much in handy in the future.

If you want to learn more about the scope, eevblog on youtube is a great resource. here's a long video out your scope: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2qdtQkBKhc and a playlist for scope tutorial related stuff: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvOlSehNtuHsCTtj-T_vkpTTbBXW4sB51 there's also probably some good threads on the eevblog forums at eevblog.com unrelated: I have a Sony CDW-900E cd burner from 1993. If you want any pictures or video of it, let me know. It still works, but it's a weird scsi device type, so using it is difficult. It's a rack mount 2U unit, absolutely massive. The tray mechanism is the smoothest one I've ever seen :)

I woud say that the first 10:45 of this one probably needs to hit the cutting room floor - lol - but it went up to your typically stellar quality after that. Here are a couple of links - here is Louis Rossmann, who, if you can handle some profanity, will have you understanding circuits and working under the microscope in no time, and in a FUN, badass way! - he makes literally millions of dollars each year, fixing Mac Book Pros in downtown NYC, and is the guy who wrote the book on it - and when I say fix, I don't mean swapping out boards, I mean understanding and fixing! - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIylPXU86pY&t=198 and his choice for the best $500 microscope in the world (that you can also record video through to use in your own videos or livestreams - i.e. a camera friendly microscope) http://amzn.to/2iLrE16 Enjoy!

Very nice color-changing t-shirt :D - I'd like to know more about the SD-card-logo. I haven't even realised it was a disk!

Great stuff !

Your caffeine levels get much higher, and you'll be able to trigger the scope with your heartbeat... (I'm a dispatcher, I'm sure mine get high enough to trigger at VHF... :-) )
