A space has been secured!

Great news!  After some doubts that the deal would fall through, I can presently say that I am now in possession of a completely blank canvas of a space, and am working on getting the new space ready for moving the set to.  I don't want to tell you too much about it yet--there's much work to be done, which partly explains why I rushed the last video.  And I can't show it to you yet because, well, I'm not there right now.

But I will say this--it's a combination of a few plans.  For the immediate future, it will only be a studio.  Essentially it's an unfinished house in the country; a custom project of a husband and wife which was never finished because, sadly, the husband died unexpectedly some years ago.  But the basics are complete, it has a fantastic basement, and a garage for maybe those car related episodes I was talking about?

The story of the house is rather depressing, but its incomplete nature meant it was well within budget, and down the road I may move there.  It's a small but lovely house, pretty much the same living space as I currently have plus one room.  But importantly--the basement is 30 feet square and has 9 foot ceilings!  And that's where the set and filming equipment will stay, out of the way.  And, I intend to leave the basement without a ceiling, so lighting can be mounted up high.

I've spent the last week doing prep work and some minor repairs.  Stay tuned for more information on the new Headquarters (which is what I'm officially calling it) and if I'm free of distractions for the rest of today, which I should be, the next video should be up for you later tonight.

Thank you everyone, and I'm super excited about what the future will hold!

Sounds great, Alec. Things have certainly changed for you since your YouTube Channel took off. I am sure ALL of us are pleased and proud to be a part of it. I sure am.

Congratulations!

Cool! How about a small tour, maybe on your 2nd channel?

Kilrah

Congrats! :-)

I'm super jealous, that sounds awesome! As someone who's lived in tiny new york apartments for the last too many years I've often dreamed of procuring a low-cost detached house somewhere out in the country for nothing other than the huge amount of space for projects. Have fun with the new place!

I believe he meant a square with 30ft sides, i.e. 900sq feet.

Awesome!

30 square foot basement? absolutely massive :p Is this your first house? If so, congrats on being a homeowner!

adcurtin

No no, not at all. This is far more conventional!

Is this the "barn" you were alluding to a few weeks ago?

Bill Basch

You should do what any normal person would do and call it the Batcave.

Yipee! That sounds like a real gem in the rough and just what you needed.

Ugh, why'd you have to ask? I kid, but *once I can get it* it will be fine. Upload speeds are abysmal, but download is plenty. The ISP in the area is currently out of ports (I'll explain this in more detail in video form I think) so temporarily I have to rely on cell service. The good news there is that it's very good at the house, shockingly. The house is in the same "development" as my folks' place, so in the mean time I can swing by and use their internet for uploading. But by the time I would consider moving there full-time, I expect the issue to be resolved.

Essentials are in place-everything has drywall (except the basement), and all plumbing/electrical is done, in fact both the bathrooms are complete and the kitchen is mostly complete. What's not done is pretty much all finishing work--there's no trim around doors or the floor in any of the rooms, the kitchen backsplash is unpainted drywall (and the electrical outlets in the kitchen are a weird temporary solution mounted on the bottom of the cabinets, presumably as a band-aid until the backsplash was tiled or whatever). And one glaring omission is that you will find NOT ONE closet in this house anywhere! The two bedrooms both have a planned space for one, but it's not there. Storage was just not thought out. But the thing is--I can do all of these things myself over time with nothing but materials cost. There is also one glaring thing that will be costly to finish, but which isn't by any means a huge rush or even important. The house has a chimney which was never finished beyond the cement board. So it's a functional fireplace, but it's ugly as hell. That is by no means an issue beyond appearances though.

Congratulations! And I wish I was closer, I would offer to help to work in the place.

Congrats! That sounds like an absolutely perfect space for you to make videos in!

The important question: how’s the internet?

Andy Aspaas

Great find, and a blessing for you (and your subscribers too!)

Roger Beal

Congrats! Looking forward to the first video from the new place. How unfinished? Does it have plumbing?

^^^ ditto!

Gavin Rea-Davies

Congrats!

Congrats, that's really cool! I'm excited to see what kinds of things the extra space allows you to make- and though the house's backstory might be a bit sad, it's a hell of a lot less sad now that it's not just going to sit empty, at least. :)
