New video! Pioneer CLD-M301

Some time ago I had mentioned that I was going to redo an earlier video.  Now I have!  If you saw the original version, I went a lot further in this one.  I decided to remove the CD changer mechanism to get a closer look, and I'm glad I did!

Also, some news: I'm working on making some upgrades to the channel.  I've relocated my green screen and am working on bringing back an actual, physical set.  It may be some weeks before the set is a thing, but in this video I recorded the audio in the new green screen location.  I'm hoping you find the acoustics to be improved, as that's why I moved the screen!

It's because I have these set up as "Early Access". That way they become public so even non-Patrons can see these posts after a while. I figure it's nice to show potential new Patrons what I post. To be honest I didn't think it would email the $1 patrons at that point but apparently it is!

Because I am under $5 patron, I get emails with the delay. But funny thing, is that I get email day after I already saw it in my public subscriptions. Weird.

Agreed - very smooth pan shot, well executed.

I absolutely loved that camera shot when you closed the Laserdisc player at 3:27. Great video, congrats on 100k, and I'm proud to be supporting a really interesting channel.

I had moved it around a few times while operating over the course of filming, and I didn't notice anything like that. It's a really big and heavy machine, so I wouldn't really expect it to be moved much at all.

Yep, that is the CD of his album "Poodle Hat".

Technology Connections

Is that a Weird Al CD in Disc 1 of the Sony Machine?? I think I had that CD growing up!

Yep!

Technology Connections

Ha, that could be! At my parents place is a Wurlitzer 3400 I fixed up when I was younger. Videos on that are definitely gonna happen at some point!

I wonder if the pioneer has a tilt-triggered e-stop. I had an old VCD player back the day that was "mobile" and by "mobile" I mean, you can put it on a desk and not touch it, and pick it up again later. One of them used a tilt trigger that when swung too far disengaged two pieces of soft rubber to grab the disk. Another one a friend of mine had a year or two later had some sort of inverted coiling that would trigger if it shook or tilted too far, overpowered the spindle magnet coil, and caused the disk to stop. Being that this thing is so big and it's meant to be stationary, it may not need that, but I also wonder if it does?

I'm assuming the little felt pads are to hold the LaserDisc ever so slightly above the circle of compact discs?

Maybe the Pioneer was designed by an engineer retired from Seeburg ... Neat video, thanks for your work!

I'm curious how the Pioneer lasers held up against the Sonys. I have had a few Sony CD carousel changers and each one died from bad laser diodes...particularly the SACD changers. I still have one, but I have to calibrate it (using the hidden menus) quite often as either it loses the ability to find the SACD layer, or it won't read a CD. I've lost faith in Sony products because of it. Switched to OPPO, never looked back.

Very cool
