Oh hello Phirae, where the F have you been?

So yeah, something I really should have addressed last month when I thought it wouldn't be as much of a deal and I'd only be a week or so behind schedule than a month.

So recently I've had a few RL shifts of things (Like, moving house and jobs, among other things) which admittedly is hardly an excuse to go mostly quiet on here, despite work still going forward (if very, very slow). But then again, these last couple of updates have had a bimonthly development cycle anyway. Which brings me neatly to me next point.

I'm still not happy with how this Patreon is set up.
Mostly in the terms of what you guys are getting in terms of support. (read: Specifically in relation to Character tiers)

With a public release every two/three months, that means that every month I'll have to take a break specifically to shift towards patron-specific scenes, and figure out how they work both in canon and mechanically in game, making sure it's not too similar to currently established characters etc, coming up with scenes and sending 'em back and forth that feels too... commission-like, for a long term project. Which also means two/three scenes per release, or you're not really getting your pledge's worth, which can vary on times (though should hopefully stay at around two months).

So, proposed changes (Any random combination of the above):

- Complete scrapping of upper two tiers, in favour of commission writing via FA etc
- Changing upper tier rewards to something completely different, if having any at all
- Switching to a "Per Release" payment system (Which would then be a paid post with every alpha, emphasising you to set monthly limits if I post a couple in a month)
- Other random idea: Make a side quest project specifically for commissioners that would be easier to set up in a separate scene kinda fashion, rather than open linked world it is now.

And last of all, payments have been paused for this month, and will remain as such until I have another release up.

Comments

Just my two cents: I see a lot of Patreons offering commission-like rewards, and then getting overwhelmed and removing those tiers. The recurring sentiment seems to be that commissions should be actual, separate commissions, and Patreon rewards should just be smaller bonuses: voting rights, bonus scenes, early access, etc. Perhaps the occasional scene suggestion, but probably not a full-fledged character. I think these are normal growing pains, and you shouldn't feel bad about restructuring to better fit your workstyle. If you still want higher tiers with more benefits, you may consider setting aside time for a single Patreon scene per update, the content of which is put to a vote, in which higher tiers have more votes. You can limit the themes/characters to those that fit your world, while still giving some say to the patrons. Just a thought. Personally speaking, I don't like the pay-per-update scheme because I don't like not having a predictable monthly payment, but that's just me. But I probably won't un-patron you just for that :).
