I'm new here, and catching up with all your reactions to this album. Anyway, as others have said, this was originally written in 2004 -- but he clearly did some tinkering with the lyrics, because Caitlyn Jenner didn't come out as trans (and adopt that name) until 2015. And I think the experience of getting older gave an old song a fresh meaning to him. His body isn't what it used to be, and he's having that experience that so many aging people have of getting injured while doing totally normal everyday things. So that's why we have lines like this: "Tip your head back, let it touch your butt / 'Til you feel a lil' pop, like what the fuck? / Motherfuck, fuck a duck, what the fuck? I'm stuck!" Been there, man. As someone who's less than a year older than Eminem, I feel this HARD.

Beginning of album is young slim/eminem sound and rapping (SSLP, MMLP, TES) and later in the album you get recovery, MMLP2, and kamikaze style of Eminem. I.e, Marshall winning his battle against younger slim shady. Also, running the album backwards you get the opposite. Marshall slowly losing to slim shady, with renaissance being the final song. We getting set up for a SSLP2??

Which is why he says it later in the album.

Em said before he likes using his name because he can think of thousands of things that rhyme with Christopher Reeves, Em proved here he can do just that! It was taken off Encore because Reeves died weeks before the album release.

Reanacise is rebirth, so rebirth of Shady. Slim goes on a tangent, and then Slim and Em argue it out for a bit, then Em begins to struggle with his addiction to Shady, wants to kill him off but also is grateful for what Shady did for him. Em kills him in Guilty Conscience 2 and then we had Marshall for the rest of the album reflecting on his success and reflecting on what if Shady did take him back in the day during that overdose... The whole album is one big reflection piece as he travels us through his career and albums over the last 25 years. Wild ride!!!!

Lot of people explaining the song is a dance that makes you crippled, like I think Stevie gets that, he was looking for more lol. Pretty sure em did like a bar about him early on in his career (because like I say, if you’re famous with a name that rhymes with a lot, pray nothing unfortunate or remotely funny happens to you cause shady will get you) and Chris maybe said something along the lines of he was an a-hole or something so Em dug in. But when I google it it actually doesn’t seem like there was a true beef.
