Neural Wraith 2 is Live
Added 2023-01-03 12:00:04 +0000 UTCWelcome to 2023, and I’m back with Nick, his overly friendly army of police androids, and another cyberpunk-noir novel. If you read the first book, then you know that this is a little different to the usual genre fare, but just as good (or better) in my opinion.
Grab it from Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BP9KWBDN
Please be sure to leave a review and share the book around if you enjoy it. This series has only had a chance thanks too all the support people have shown it despite being a bit different, so a huge thanks to everyone.
If you read the chapters on Patreon, there are a few changes in the final version:
- Two new chapters (Ch27, Ch31)
- An extra scene with Rie in Ch19
- Chloe's sex scene is in Ch31, but I cut the planned sex scene with Rie in Ch19 (which makes this a low sexual content series, although Chloe's scene is a proper one)
- I removed all references to the symposium
- There are also a bunch of minor changes to conversations and clues provided in earlier chapters (and other edits)
I approached this book with a more episodic approach, while still developing a longer-term story and world. This means each volume tells an entire story. I get to explore a fun type of mystery (a murder-mystery mixed with a conspiracy) while also exploring different sides of the cyberpunk world the series takes place in. The vibe is hopefully largely the same as the first book, although I don’t think I can completely recapture it, for the same reason a superhero origin movie is different to sequels.
Because of the surprising success of the first book, I’m taking a risk here and considering extending the series. It’s possible the first book was just lightning in a bottle, but I might turn this into a longer series than the originally planned trilogy if all goes well again.
Good news is that I really enjoyed writing this book and the break I took has helped me a lot. I know it meant I didn’t publish as much as I promised, and I’m sorry about that, but taking some time off has allowed me to come back refreshed. If I want to keep writing for years, then I need to avoid thinking of this as some sort of grind job to churn out the words, because I can’t imagine any faster way to turn being an author into a nightmare.
The audiobook should be off to recording very soon, from what Podium told me, so hopefully it’s only a few months away.
My schedule for 2023 will be more relaxed to avoid burning out like I did last year. My next book will be Spellblade 6, planned for the first week of March.
As always, if you spot any typos or other mistakes in the new book (or any other book), please let me know about them using the anonymous form below. This allows me to quickly fix them and improve the experience for later readers. Thanks!

H.s. is still my goto. But I love the cyberpunk. Kinda hoping for him to get a cybernetic arm.

2023-01-06 19:50:01 +0000 UTCThanks! And yeah, even though there's less sex in this series I still want the scenes to be meaningful. I'm optimistic I can turn this into something longer.

2023-01-04 05:07:44 +0000 UTCGreat second book! 5 stars! I found the scene with Chloe and Meta in Chapter 28 to be very endearing seeing how he cares about them. I always liked the way you create relationships because to me at least, they feel the most natural that I’ve ever read. Overall I’m thrilled with the book and look forward to the sequel. I would love to see this series go beyond a trilogy!

2023-01-04 02:21:41 +0000 UTCGlad you enjoyed it. The relationships do move slow, but I'm a fan of very slow burns and this is closer to my personal preference. Especially for characters like Kushiel who need some barriers broken down.

2023-01-04 00:43:04 +0000 UTCJust finished book 2 and really enjoyed it. I really like this series. Personally wouldn’t mind some of the relationships moving a bit faster, but that’s just me. I think you did a good job making all the different incidents make sense once the reasoning behind them becomes clear.
