Quick Update

So it's been fairly quiet this month (other than the audiobook releases by my publishers) and no Neural Wraith 2 chapters despite my promises.

Basically, I've been suffering some nasty writer's block while also being distracted by IRL. I'm unhappy with the early chapters of the book (and have a very early chapter that I need to write, but that I've scrapped a couple of versions of). Hence why nothing's getting posted, because I'm not even sure if the first 3 chapters are ready due to some of the stuff I might change. I have lots of ideas and little to show other than a partial book I don't really like.

IRL-wise, there's lots of stuff, which is the reason I'm distracted. Turns out spending a month overseas means there's stuff to catch up that I put off. The biggest annoyance got taken care of today, but there's one more I need to resolve this week.

I'm unhappy that I've had a few dead months and it's put me fairly behind. I'm not really feeling burned out at least, but some of my other feelings (i.e. about the genre) haven't changed though. I'll need to resolve that early next year at some point, I feel, given my opinions on the direction of the genre and the audience being fostered.

So what am I doing about it?

I plan to do a writing grind for most of December and January to catch up on my books (Neural Wraith 2, maybe 3, and then either Spellblade 6 or the third Emperor). I'm likely going to start posting content daily (or close enough, as I'll need some days off due to Christmas/family) toward the end of the week for at least December. This means the chapters will be a bit rougher than usual.

I'll work out release date once I break through this current bout of writer's block. Although it will be sooner rather than later, as I've taken too long and Amazon will get angry and start punishing me.

Once I've caught up on all my current series, including that Emperor book I've promised for ages, then I'll have room to think. And probably take another break.

Oh man, I've had several discussions with Denny regarding the direction the genre has been going... ...it was fun while it lasted.

I have to say I kinda agree with your concerns about the genre - especially the stuff being released on Kindle. All the more reason I really appreciate your books! Feels like I just have lost interest with a lot of the remaining authors with some of my old favorites going silent, so I always get real excited when you drop something new. Hope things clear up and you can continue writing the things you enjoy!

Thanks for clarifying. I didnt know which genre you were referring to. It sounded a bit ominous, lol.

I mentioned some stuff in some post release updates over the past few months. The genre feels like it's moving away from the sort of books I write, which has been exacerbated by authors leaving the genre.

Im not sure what you mean by "Feelings about the genre" and "the audience that is being fostered". I may have missed a post... Could you clarify that?

Hey it’s all good chief take your time if you can, people love your books and I’m sure we’re all willing to wait longer so that you can tend to your health and some time with your family. Good luck on everything :)
