It's time for our Extra History poll! Where you get to vote on what our next "Extra History Short" is about!
These four topics were selected from our "Weird Dudes in History" Patreon Suggestions and are listed in no particular order below.
Emperor Norton I of the United States
Though there are No Kings in America, we do like a fun and entertaining character, and Emperor Norton could really stay with the bit.
John Harvey Kellogg
Though Kellogg's weirdness is often overstated (most of his health recommendations remain perfectly fine today) he also prescribed yogurt enemas, recommended circumcision without anesthetic as a cure for... well, you can guess... and left his estate to a self-created eugenics and segregation organization.
Nikola Tesla
Tesla was a brilliant man, but also a weirdo who suffered from compulsions and delusions that grew steadily worse as he aged. Indeed, many of his most famous "inventions"—including his "death beam," his earthquake device, and other fancies—come from birthday press conferences he did late in life, hoping to drum up funding, publicity or perhaps just to amuse himself. Also, he was in love with a pigeon.
Diogenes the Cynic
Living in a jar, declaring himself the victor of the Olympics, urinating on well-known citizens and telling Alexander the Great to stop standing in his light, Diogenes was infamous for odd behavior. However, his outrageous antics almost always had a point—a kind of performance meant to underline his philosophy.
