Nazi Occultism 2: Weird Science | European History

While Hitler mocked the astrological and esoteric beliefs of the Thule Society, he embraced their nationalism, antisemitism, and völkisch ideas, quickly rising to lead the party. Now with the Nazi influence spreading, the line between mysticism and pseudoscience blurred. Fringe beliefs like World Ice Theory and eugenics began to shape the party’s ideology and with Hitler’s regime combining cutting-edge propaganda with pseudoscience they fueled their warped vision of a "modern" Aryan future.

When dealing with those with disabilities, care must be taken to avoid offending people by accident. Not that the Nazis were much better.

I have a question hopefully you cover in the lies episode. The episode says those with different bodies were sterilised, why call it that rather than say disabled? It may sound trivial but euphemisms are often used because non-disabled people are uncomfortable with the reality of how disabled people are treated. Also it wasn’t just those with physical disabilities; deaf people, people with epilepsy, schizophrenia and severe alcoholism were sterilised too.

Your comment about how Judaism is tracked forgets that it is an ethno-religion. jewish custom tracks it via the mother line. It is both a religion and an ethnicity.

Herkles

You again state that Hitler was a comitted athiest even though he persecuted atheism, thought it was bolshevism and jewish materialism.

The section about Nazi pulp literature was super interesting! If anyone's interested in reading more about that sort of thing, Norman Spinrad's Iron Dream is a really interesting (though very grim) alternate history novel about just how closely Nazi ideology can resemble pulp-era sci fi.

How widespread were these beliefs? I hear talk of "the Nazis believed this", but how widespread were these among the rank and file? Individual followers tend to have their own mix of accepted ideals, which can be much more difficult to confront than a single monolith.

Very cool episode! Do you think you’ll ever do a series on the development of the Nuclear Bomb? That would be really cool!

We're talking about Nazis at a time when Russia is currently using Nazism as an excuse to invade a country that lost 8,000,000 people fighting the actual Nazis. Oh, and to the Nazi fellow from episode 1 [I couldn't help noticing Rob was wearing a Captain America outfit while Matt was dressed as Indiana Jones] while Buddha probably was an Indo ~ Aryan, the Buddha's ethnicity really isn't important ~ his teaching is what matters. Oh, yes, and the tale of Atlantis is most probably a folk memory of the eruption of Thera which laid waste to the Minoan Civilization on Crete in 1600 BCE. Since the Ancient Greeks had no knowledge of Volcanism [a word which didn't exist in Homer's lifetime], they attributed the eruption to the wrath of Poseidon, the God of Earthquakes, as well as ruler of the oceans.
