Extra History Suggestions are OPEN until 11/27!

Hello Historians, our next Extra History theme is For SCIENCE!

Science: the thing that’s saved us… and will probably destroy us. Scientific innovation has changed our world in incalculable ways, from ushering in the era of flight, to modern pharmaceuticals, timekeeping, and chemistry. For this vote, we’ll be looking at topics that either deal with the history of science—the development of alchemy into chemistry for instance—or that profile famous or influential scientists. If you’ve been waiting for a series on Marie Curie, Isaac Newton this is the time to pitch it! Note that we will be interpreting “science” broadly, so feel free to pitch topics that predate the Enlightenment and deal with things like Medieval science, Ibn al-Haytham, Aristotle, and Francis Bacon.

You can enter YOUR suggestions for the topic HERE in this form.

Meaningless Theories

How about Fritz Haber and the process of nitrogen fixation? Haber and Bosch's process allowed nations to create nitrogen fertilizer easier and broke their reliance on guano fertilizer. It also has a darker side with chemical warfare in WWI.

I think you should do a series on the bone wars. Between Othniel Charles Marsh and Edward Drinker Cope. It got extremely heated, so much so that both sides destroyed fossils so the other wouldn’t find them. But the same time it revolutionized paleontology. And made species like triceratops and stegosaurus known to scientists.
